Wondering what trends are coming or going for the new year? Here are my predictions for 2025 style trends, and what I think of each one!
Trends are always coming and going, and it’s hard to keep track! Here are my predictions for 2025 style trends, which ones I’m liking, hating, which ones from last year are sticking around, and which 2025 trends I’m planning to try.
Remember, you don’t have to incorporate any of these!! It’s fun to push yourself and try new styles, but also some trends are just not worth it. My advice is to have the closet staples in your wardrobe and then add a few trendy pieces here and there to make your style feel fun and current. The most important thing is that you’re confident and happy in what you wear!
2025 Style Trends
Polo shirts. We’ve seen collared sweaters and polo sweaters coming back in the last few years and I’m loving it actually. I’m not really crazy about a classic polo shirt for women, especially the rugby style from the 90’s…you know, with the white contrast collar? But I think we’ll be seeing more of this sporty look in 2025. If you want to try the polo trend, I’d choose something chic like this.
Ruffles. This is a big runway trend I’ve been seeing for this season, and we’ll see how long this one lasts. Ruffles on sleeves, collars, necklines…I think some of it will be great, and some of it will be too much of a nod to circus clown tops! Something like this is a little too much for me, but something like this is super chic and gorgeous.
All styles of jeans – including skinny! If you’re a skinny jeans girl, your time is back! I hope if you love skinny jeans that you never stopped wearing them, but they are officially back and in stores! This “perfect vintage” style from Madewell is my favorite of their jeans, and they just released them in a skinny version. I’m seeing articles say that wide leg jeans are out, but I think we’ll still see plenty of them this year. There may be less in stores, but we all have them in our closets and I’ll still definitely be wearing them. I actually donated all of my skinny jeans a few years ago, so it may take me a little while to get back into skinny jeans, but if you still have them in your closet, pull them back out and wear them if you’d like!
Polka dots. This will be one of 2025’s biggest prints…I love polka dots, but typically more of a pin or micro dot girl. But this year, I’m seeing lots of oversized polka dots! I think they are cute as long as they’re done in a modern way that doesn’t feel costume-y, like a 50’s poodle skirt girl! THIS SKIRT from Target is actually so cute, with a large polka dot print.
Bomber style jackets. We’ve been seeing bomber jackets since last year, and they are sticking around! On the theme of sporty rugby polos, we’ll also see letterman style jackets. I personally love this style and am all for it, as long as they’re not too oversized! I bought THIS DENIM BOMBER last year and THIS LETTERMAN STYLE VERSION, and I’ll be wearing both a ton this year. The navy letterman style one is almost out of stock, but this one is similar!
Animal print. The huge print trend of 2023 and 2024 was leopard, and this year some new prints are being added to the mix…zebra print, cow print, and more! I think I’ll stick to leopard, personally. This leopard skirt is one of my favorite leopard items I purchased last year, and it’ll get lots more wear this year!
Denim on denim. I love denim on denim, and this is a trend we’ve been seeing for years, but will continue in 2025! Pair your denim shirts and jeans together…try similar shades broken up with a belt or a jacket, or try different shades for a contrast!
Blazers. Blazers are still going strong! They’re not quite as super trendy as they’ve been the past few years, but I’m still seeing a lot of them and mine are going nowhere. I’m seeing them more in casual outfits, with jeans and tees and sneakers, which is my ideal look! I have a post right here about tops to wear under a blazer, if you need some ideas.
Burgundy/green/yellow/pink/brown. These are some of the big colors we’re seeing this year! Mocha Mousse is the pantone color of the year, and it’s sort of a soft, warm brown, so I think we’ll be seeing lots of browns this year!
Sequins for everyday. I love this one cause we’ve just come off of New Year’s, with lots of sequins, so get ready to wear them with your jeans for everyday! But this year I’m actually seeing larger sequins, rather than your traditional tiny ones. I think they can look a little cheap when the sequins are large if they’re not done right, but they can also be super gorgeous, so choose your sequins carefully this year. This one is a good example of a large sequin that’s done really well.
Bubble skirts. Bubble skirts are back! I’ve been seeing tons of these in the gowns at award shows this year, and I think we’ll see a lot of it in fashion as spring and summer roll around and we have skirts and dresses in all the stores. I actually love this one and I think it will be a fun one to add to your closet. This one is super affordable if you want to try it without the price tag.
Short Cardigans. For everyday winter/spring/fall style, cardigans are the “it” sweater! Anything with buttons is a great choice. I personally love a little chunkier knit cardigan, like this one – it’s one of my favorites. Just make sure you’re wearing them buttoned up, not open!
Charms. Charms were a huge trend last year in the summer, and I think we’ll see lots more of them this year! They’re not just for bracelets and necklaces though…I’m seeing them on bags, on shoelaces, on backpacks, and even on sweaters and lapels like a brooch! I like this one, and I think it can be youthful and chic. I’ll be wearing charm bracelets and necklaces with classics and basics, and I’m going to try adding them as a trendy element on bags….maybe even on my shoes if I’m feeling fun. Nickel and Suede has a lot of cute ones!
Two-toned Trucker Hats. Have you seen this style of hat around? I’m seeing them everywhere lately, with the cream hat and a colored bill! I love a trend like this cause it’s low risk — small investment, and a fun way to add a trendy element to a classic outfit. I don’t always love a trucker style baseball hat (sometimes they’re too tall for me), but I think with this trend we’ll see a lot of variation in the fits of the hats so there will be options for everyone. If you’re a baseball hat girlie (like me), you should absolutely try this trend.
Colorful Sneakers. This is another fun and easy trend that you can add to a classic outfit and keep it feeling fresh and modern. I love a colorful sneaker, and red, pink, green, and burgundy are really popular right now. Add them to jeans and basic sweater or tee outfit and you’ve made a cute and easy outfit that feels fun but still classy. THIS PAIR from Target is an easy option that are affordable (and so comfy), and I also recently bought THIS GREEN ADIDAS PAIR and they’re super comfy and a great shoe for year round.
Are you excited about any of these trends? Any trends you’re already ready to see out?
2025 is sure to be a year of innovation and disruption.
Just FYI the link to the colorful target sneakers is wrong.
