I’m so excited to share our family circus Halloween costumes for this year! We had so much fun putting these costumes together and here are all the details.

Our family Halloween circus costumes

We had a bit of a struggle coming up with a family Halloween costume this year, and went through about twenty options before we landed on circus Halloween costumes.

And I love, love, love how they turned out.

How we decided on the circus theme

When we lived in California, Philip’s office did a yearly Halloween costume contest. His team went all out every year and decorated the entire office with a walk through experience…music, lights, themed decor, and all of the employees dressed up as the theme.

One year they did a circus theme, so he already had the ringmaster costume.

When I threw out the idea of doing a circus family Halloween costume theme, I started looking up ideas of other characters, and found a picture of a group and one person had a fortune teller booth. I knew immediately we had to make it happen.

All of our characters:

  • Philip is the ringmaster, of course.
  • I am a tightrope walker, although the boys pressured me hard to be the bearded lady…I passed.
  • B is Zoltar! This is my favorite costume I’ve ever put together.
  • Fos is the strong man. He had a love hate relationship with this costume.
  • Sanny was the lion, and took his roll as the animal very seriously.

Circus Costume: Strong Man

This one came together easily. We purchased THIS MUSCLE SHIRT, he wore basketball shorts he already owned, and we added RED SUSPENDERS, BLACK COMBAT BOOTS, and A GOLD BELT.

We made the weight with foam and a stick that he spray painted all by himself…missed a few spots, but I think he did an awesome job and I love it exactly how it is.

The mustache was a last minute decision and he hated it. But he wore it for the pictures and I think it looks FAB.

Circus Halloween costume: Zoltar fortune teller

This is by far my favorite of the costumes. The booth just makes the costume and I love it so much.

For his outfit, he wore THIS WHITE SHIRT, a BLACK VEST, the fortune teller TURBAN, and THESE RINGS as accessories. We used the same CRYSTAL BALL from my Professor Trelawney costumes we did two years ago.

For the booth, I found THIS ZOLTAR CARDBOARD CUT OUT and we cut the Zoltar out of it so it had an empty frame but looked like the real booth, and then cut it down a little bit to be the right size for B. (Again, a few years ago, I might have painted this thing…but Amazon to the rescue for this one).

We created a booth out of wood and PVC pipe with wheels on the bottom, and then bought brown fabric and hung it around the sides of the PVC pipe frame to create a booth.

I found some gold fringe at Joanns and added that along the top of the booth opening.

Circus Costume: Tight Rope Walker

If it was a few years ago, I might have sewn my own costume…but instead, I turned to Amazon and found a DANCER COSTUME that was in the same color scheme as Philip’s circus master costume.

It was strapless, so I wore my BLACK BODYSUIT underneath, then added some NUDE TIGHTS and BLACK FLATS that I already owned.

I found this PARASOL and that helped it look more like a tightrope walker and less like a ballerina or dancer.

Circus Halloween costumes: Circus Master and Lion

As I mentioned before, Philip’s costume was from about five years ago, but THIS is the ringmaster costume we bought him back then. I sewed a feather boa onto the collar to make it a little more dramatic. He wore his own dress pants and white shirt, and the bow tie from THIS SET.

The hat that came with the ringmaster costume is huge and ugly, so we did a BOWLER HAT instead and it was perfect. And of course he needed a MUSTACHE.

We bought THIS LION COSTUME on Amazon for Sanny, then added nose and whisker makeup on his face.

We had to have the lion jumping through the ring of fire, so we used a hoola hoop and added red, orange, and yellow tissue paper and taped it to the hoop. Sanny and Fos did that project all by themselves!

They are open 24 hours a day, seven days a week and have highly trained medical professionals available to treat you. Additionally, Urgent Care Covington can treat illnesses and injuries as well as provide treatment for common injuries such as sprains or broken bones, dental problems, infections, skin rashes and many other types of conditions.
