Can we all agree that bermuda shorts are hard to style? Yes? Ok, good. But shorts are a must have during the summer, and those of us who need the extra length in shorts are presented with the challenge of how to wear bermuda shorts and make them look cute.
So today I’m dedicating a whole post on how to style them and where to buy them.
You can choose from fitted or non-fitted bermuda shorts
Let’s discuss about 2 fits of bermuda shorts — looser leg fit, and skinny jean fit.
- LOOSER LEG FIT can be chino shorts, boyfriend style shorts, or knee length trouser shorts. I’m going to show you boyfriend style denim bermuda shorts.
- SKINNY LEG BERMUDA SHORTS. These fit like a skinny jean, and are typically longer on the leg. You can buy this style, but you can also cut off old skinny jeans to your desired length)
This is the key to wearing bermuda shorts
The key when wearing any of these shorts is to make your outfit look pulled together and purposeful.
By nature, bermuda shorts aren’t super flattering to your leg because they cut off right in the middle. So we need to learn how to make an outfit with shorts look stylish, pretty, and as flattering as possible.
What kind of tops work with bermuda shorts?
- Structured tops. A crisp button down creates a really clean, modern look. Structured tops look especially good with boyfriend fit bermuda shorts.
- Feminine tops. Long shorts can feel more masculine, and are also less flattering to your body. So add some femininity with a lace or eyelet top, ruffles, pleats, or a top with fuller sleeves. All of these will keep your outfit feeling feminine.
- Fitted tops or bodysuits. If you have an hourglass or rectangular shaped body, a bodysuit can look super cute with boyfriend bermuda shorts. If you have a pear or apple shaped body type, this isn’t the best choice for you.
- Knotted tops or tees. A knotted tee or tie front shirt helps shorten the length of your shirt and elongate your legs. Bermuda shorts cut off your leg line in the middle, so any shirts that help elongate your leg will be ideal.
- Oversized tees. If you’re wearing fitted bermuda shorts, an oversized tee is a really good option. Try a fun graphic tee and then half tuck it into the shorts!
What kinds of shoes work best with bermuda shorts outfits?
- Neutral, nude sandals. As I said before, Bermuda shorts cut off your leg line. So wearing flesh colored shoes will help elongate your leg.
- Wedges or platform sandals. Adding some height is never a bad idea. Flatform sandals are my personal favorite because they add some height while still feeling casual.
- Pointed toe flats. The pointed toe helps elongate your leg.
- Low cut sneakers. If you’re going to wear sneakers, keep them low cut so as much of your leg and ankle show as possible. This helps elongate your leg line too!
