We’re heading into spring and it’s prime layering season! This is a fun time to pull out your spring dresses and create a cool sweater over dress outfit.

I’ve partnered with Walmart today to share some fun spring picks from their collection, plus a step by step outfit, and I know you guys love seeing how I put together an outfit step by step!

There are lots of cute pieces new at Walmart for spring, including a few darling dresses. It’s still a little chilly in most places to wear a spring dress by itself, so I wanted to show you a fun way to wear a dress when you still need a little extra warmth.

Here’s a step by step guide to put together a sweater over dress outfit

Step 1. Start with a spring dress

THIS CUTE ONE from Walmart is a perfect place to start.

2. Add a pair of sandals, or boots if it’s too cold

I found THESE CUTE HEELED SANDALS at Walmart and love them with this look, but if the weather is still too cold, add a pair of BOOTS.

3. Add a pullover sweater over the top of the sweater.

If your sweater is cropped, there’s no need to tuck it under. But if it’s a little longer, like THIS CABLE KNIT SWEATER, use a hair tie to create a little “tail” in the front, then tuck the tail underneath.

You could totally finish the outfit right here — I love this look. But let’s keep going for fun!

4. Toss a jacket on over the top for an extra layer

In the spring you often want another layer if possible. Add a denim jacket over the sweater (if needed!) to stay a little warmer.

5. Add accessories and a lip color!

Finish the look with a cute pair of EARRINGS, some lipstick, or a small scarf around your neck. All would be really fun additions for spring.
