Hats are a summer staple for me. These are three styles of summer hats that I love to wear during the warm months, plus a few ideas of how to wear them and a couple of shopping options.
These are my three favorite styles of hats for summer.
In the summer months, hats become a staple for me.
They’re an easy accessory to keep the sun out of your face and complete your outfit.
There are two styles of hats I wear regularly in the summer, and one new one that I’ve been adding into the rotation this year: baseball caps, straw hats, and felt fedora hats. There are tons of different hat styles out there, but baseball caps, straw hats, and felt fedoras are the three I want to talk about today.
Where to buy these hats, which ones to choose, and when to wear them.
My favorite brand of straw hat is Brixton.
Remember my post last year about my favorite shopping hack?? Buy them at places with free shipping and free returns so you can try them on at home and send it back if it doesn’t work! Hats can be tricky, so sometimes you have to try a couple before you find the right one for your head.
For an everyday look, I recommend a fedora style hat with a medium brim. Save the wide brim for the beach.
How to wear a straw fedora hat:
I’ve linked some of my favorite straw hats below!
My favorite places to buy baseball caps are Nordstrom and American Eagle.
If you don’t own any baseball caps, start with a solid black one – it’s a staple in my closet! I also recommend a neutral colored one, like navy, olive green, or blush because they go with basically everything.
Personally I love the ones with a symbol, logo, word, or phrase, because they add some fun to summer basics. I’ve linked some favorites below.
How to wear baseball hats with your outfit:
They’re a great option for the park or the pool with kids, I love wearing them with casual dresses to make the look a little more sporty, and they’re a great option with any basic jeans or shorts and t-shirt outfit. You can even wear them with slightly dressier outfits like this denim skirt and button up look.
I’ve linked some of my current favorite baseball caps below!
My favorite places to find felt fedoras are at Urban Outfitters and Nordstrom.
The most versatile color of fedora for summer is definitely a light tan color. The one I’m wearing in three of the four photos below is THIS ONE, but sadly it sold out. But THIS ONE is really similar, as is THIS ONE.
How to wear felt fedora hats for summer:
The outfits I’m showing you below are a little less summery because I just got my first felt fedora in the fall last year. But you can wear them with denim cut offs and a solid tee, a button up shirt and white jeans, distressed denim and a graphic tee, or a cute summer dress. Lots of good, easy options!
Here’s a little trick — stick to felt hats with a straight, flat brim. A floppy brim is harder to style in my opinion!
