A hat is one of my favorite accessories to wear in the summer. These are my three favorite hats, and some summer outfits with hats.
Let me show you some summer outfits with hats
Hats are a summer staple for me – baseball caps, fedoras, and straw hats. Let me show you some summer outfits with hats, and some really cute hats.
Here’s why I love wearing hats in the summer
Hats are a great accessory for the summer. They’re an easy accessory to keep the sun out of your face and a great way to complete a really basic summer outfit.
There are three styles of hats that I wear regularly:
- Baseball caps
- Felt fedoras
- Straw fedoras
Here’s a great tip about shopping for hats
Hats can be tricky, so sometimes you have to try a couple before you find the right one for your head.
Remember my post a few years ago about my favorite shopping hack? Buy them at places with free shipping and free returns so you can try them on at home and send it back if it doesn’t work!
Ok, now it’s time to talk about three styles of hats
1. Straw hats are a great summer accessory
I love wearing straw hats in the summer. They’re great with a summer dress, jeans and a t-shirt, or shorts and an easy summer top.
For an everyday look, I recommend a fedora style hat with a medium brim. Save the wide brim for the beach.
How to wear a straw fedora hat:
I love wearing straw fedoras to the beach or pool, with summer dresses, with my basics to add a little personality, or with summer skirts.

2. A baseball cap is a casual summer staple
If you don’t own any baseball caps, start with a solid black one – it’s a staple in my closet! I also recommend a neutral colored one, like navy, olive green, or blush because they go with basically everything.
I also love the ones with a symbol, logo, word, or phrase, because they add some fun to summer basics.
Some outfit ideas with baseball caps
They’re a great option for the park or the pool with kids, I love wearing them with casual dresses to make the look a little more sporty, and they’re a great option with any basic jeans or shorts and t-shirt outfit. You can even wear them with slightly dressier outfits like this denim skirt and button up look.

OLIVE GREEN PANTS || STRIPED TEE

3. Felt fedoras aren’t just for fall and winter!
The most versatile color of fedora for summer is definitely a light tan color. The one I’m wearing in three of the four photos is old and sold out (brand is Billabong). But THIS ONE is really similar, as is THIS ONE.
How to wear felt fedora hats for summer:
The outfits I’m showing you below are a little less summery because I just got my first felt fedora in the fall last year. But you can wear them with denim cut offs and a solid tee, a button up shirt and white jeans, distressed denim and a graphic tee, or a cute summer dress. Lots of good, easy options!
Here’s a little trick — stick to felt hats with a straight, flat brim. A floppy brim is harder to style in my opinion!

I have always loved that blue dodgers hat!

I really need to get a hat this spring, I was never a fan of hats ever since I was little but now I see the importance of one to protect my head from the sun. I was thinking of getting a straw hat but baseball caps look so cool, I’m torn between the two.
