Wondering what trends are coming or going for the new year? Here are some big 2026 style trends I’m already seeing, and what I think of each one!
Trends are always coming and going, and it’s hard to keep track! Here are my predictions for 2026 style trends, which ones I’m liking, hating, which ones from last year are sticking around, and which 2026 trends I’m planning to try.
Remember, you don’t have to incorporate any of these!! It’s fun to push yourself and try new styles, but also some trends are just not worth it. My advice is to have the closet staples in your wardrobe and then add a few trendy pieces here and there to make your style feel fun and current. The most important thing is that you’re confident and happy in what you wear!
2026 Style Trends I’m (mostly) excited about
Bold colors
- After years of neutrals, I’m so excited to see lots of color coming back! We’re seeing lots of yellows, blues, purples, greens, and other bright, happy colors. I’m very excited about this trend. I’ve been wearing color all along, so it’s not new to me, but I’m glad that we’re moving away from so many neutrals.
Shoulder pads
- These are not your mom’s 80’s shoulder pads…these are chic and add lots of structure to an outfit. If you’re wearing something that makes you look like you have football pads on under your clothes, it’s a no from me. If you’re adding some subtle shoulder structure in a blazer or a dress, I’m all in. THIS, for example, is fabulous.
Statement pants – track, satin, dressy and casual
- Statement pants became really popular last year and I’m happy to say that they’re sticking around. They’re a great alternative to jeans, and although I’m definitely a jeans girl, I absolutely love a pair of fun track or satin pants. I’ve been wearing mine so much. THIS is my favorite affordable pair, but I just got THESE and they’re insanely good.
Full length pants
- We’ve had yeaaaarrrrs of cropped pants, and while you can still absolutely wear your cropped pants and jeans (I still will be wearing mine), the full length jeans and pants are taking over! I think they’re fantastic and especially great for the winter when we want to wear boots and keep our legs warm. THESE are my new favorite affordable full length jeans, and THESE are my favorite slightly more expensive pair. I wear both all the time.
Peep toe shoes
- The teeny tiny peep toe heels are coming back and I think they’re so ugly. I love a full open toe shoe LIKE THIS, but I’m seeing more and more like THIS and I think they look like a hoof.
Sling back shoes
- Sling back pumps starting coming back in 2025 and I mostly resisted them. But they’ve grown on me and I think they can be pretty classy and chic. I love a kitten heel when it’s done well, and of course it’s much easier to walk in than a 4″ heel, so I think this is a win for all women. THESE ONES are particularly pretty.
Big statement jewelry
- No, it’s not the return of the J.Crew bubble necklace, but we are seeing lots of wooden beaded necklaces, long necklaces, layered necklaces, and sculptural earrings, bracelets, and necklaces. For me, more is more with jewelry, so I’m all for these big pieces. Nickel and Suede jewelry will be one to watch, since they make stunning jewelry out of leather, so you could get the big earrings and they’ll still be light as a feather. I’m excited to see their take on this trend.
Fur coats
- When I was in Paris, faux fur was EVERYWHERE. And when I returned in the new year, it felt like every store had faux fur coats already! I’m loving this trend, and I’ll definitely be buying a second faux fur coat. I’m deciding between a cool color LIKE THIS, or a more neutral option LIKE THIS. This is the one I’ve had for years and have been wearing a ton lately!
Natural fibers
- I’m seeing this shift more and more to natural fibers – cashmere, cotton, etc. My go-to for high quality but affordable cashmere and 100% cotton pieces is Quince!
Brooches
- I jumped hard on the brooch trend and have been having so much fun adding them to jackets and coats and scarves and blazers. Anthropologie has the best ones at good prices – they’re high quality pieces! All my favorites that I’ve been wearing are shown HERE.
Loafers
- Absolute YES to loafers. I’ve been loving and wearing loafers for years and I’m so happy to see them coming back in a huge way. It feels very elevated, casual chic, and you can wear them with jeans and silk pants and trousers and anything. I just bought THIS PAIR and cannot wait to wear them.
Scarves – triangle, silk, oversized
- Scarves are here to stay, and if you didn’t try the silk scarf trend in 2025, this is your sign. Silk scarves are classic and classy, and I think they’re a great addition to an outfit that doesn’t feel trendy because it’s something that has been around forever. THIS is my favorite place to get them – you get 2 for $30!
Print mixing
- We’re back to 2010 with the print mixing! But this time we’re doing it in a classier way. One of my goals for this year is to be more bold with my outfits, and I think this is a great way to do it. I just put together THIS OUTFIT with 3 different prints – a pinstriped button up shirt, a leopard silk scarf, and a herringbone coat…two of the prints are really subtle and I think it creates a really cool outfit with pops of unexpected interest.
Dark teal
- Pantone’s color of the year is “Cloud Dancer,” which is basically white and SO BORING. But WGSN named “Transformative Teal” as their color of the year and it’s a stunning dark teal and I’m HERE FOR IT. It’s such a pretty and unexpected color, and I’ll be finding ways to add it to my closet all year long for sure.
Are you excited about any of these trends? Any trends you’re already ready to see out?
