Trying to figure out colors that go well with rust or terracotta? I’m all about adding color to your outfits, and today we’re talking all about one of my favorite colors, and which colors you can pair with it.
Rust is one of the best colors to wear in the fall. Its warm color can kind of be neutral and pairs well with so many fall staple colors.
This is my FOURTH post in my “what to wear with…” color series. If you missed them, definitely check out my WHAT TO WEAR WITH OLIVE GREEN, WHAT TO WEAR WITH NAVY BLUE, and WHAT TO WEAR WITH BLUSH PINK posts.
So today I’m showing you WHAT TO WEAR WITH RUST.
These posts are to help you think outside the standard white, cream, and black colors that we pair with the harder colors in our closet.
I’m wearing a pair of rust colored twill pants I bought from Anthropologie like 6 years ago, so my exact pair are no longer available, but here are a few similar options from QUINCE, ANTHROPOLOGIE (I bought these ones and they’re a little more mustard yellow in person, not quite as rust as they look online), and OLD NAVY (currently sold out in most sizes, but hopefully will get restocked soon).
What to Wear With the color Rust
Wear rust with gray! It’s a perfect neutral, and the cool color pairs perfectly with the warm deep orange, letting it really stand out. I paired with my black Chelsea boots because my sweater is chunkier, so I wanted to balance the heavier top. This a great fall outfit.
Try rust with cream. A warm cream color is an amazing neutral option with a rust pair of pants.
Try rust with stripes. This cute striped sweater is perfect with rust pants. It’s cream and black stripes, but you could do navy and white, or black and white, or any other color of stripes.
Denim and rust. Denim goes with everything, so it’s a no-brainer choice. I went with a darker denim top, but light chambray works too!
Yellow and rust. This combo just makes sense because it’s like fall leaves paired together! I love how it looks and it’s just so unexpected.
Dark teal and rust. This was an unexpected pairing that I saw in my closet and had to try, and love how it turned out. The rich jewel tones together are just so striking!
Blush and rust. This was another unexpected color combo, but I love it. Blush goes with everything cause it’s a really subtle neutral!
Tan and rust. They’re a match made in heaven! Both in the same color family, just different tones. We love a monochromatic look around here.
Navy and rust. I’m obsessed with this combination. It’s neutral but so rich and striking!
Light blue and rust. I honestly wasn’t sure about this one when I first had the idea, but as soon as I put it on, I ended up loving it. It’s a really chic work outfit!
White and rust. Is there anything better than a crisp white top? There is not. This one is so good and looks amazing with the rust pants to let them really stand out and shine.
Olive green and rust. I was a little nervous that green and orange would look like a pumpkin, but I actually love this outfit. The white top underneath helps break it up a little bit, and I think it looks like the perfect fall outfit.
Black and rust. Again, I didn’t want this black and rust to look too Halloween, but with a chic top and the leopard flats, I think it looks perfect.
Burgundy and rust. Burgundy and rust are a fall match made in heaven, and I’m obsessed with this pairing. I did burgundy shoes, a top, and a bag, and it still doesn’t feel like enough of the color combo. Try it this fall!
I hope that gives you some good ideas of how to pair colors in your closet!
