Up until a few months ago, I didn’t ever think I’d be a black (faux) leather jacket wearer. I just couldn’t imagine it looking anything but biker-chick on me. But now that I actually own one, I’m realizing how incredibly versatile it is — I think the fact that it’s fitted and has a cool asymmetrical zipper helps keeps it super modern and not biker at all. I love it so much that I’m finding myself wearing it at least once a week, despite the heat wave.

I was struggling to style this dress a little bit, trying to find ways to make it not look matronly or juvenile, and as soon as I put on the black leather jacket it all came together for a perfect combination of feminine and edgy. Super jacket to the rescue.

  2. I got a real one at a thrift store that I've been terrified of wearing! I need to pull it out.

It does look great! I bought a faux leather jacket years ago from Zellers. Paid <30$ and got so many compliments on it.

Can't imagine wearing a leather jacket myself… but you and a couple of other blogs I love have styled them so well recently. Maybe I'll try it!

I live in Sicily where people wear black almost entirely; I stand out so much in softer, light colors or wearing anything neon!

I have a faux leather moto jacket too, and it really does add that extra something to my dresses.

  7. Teehee! Tomorrow I will be your twin. I almost wore it with my black moto jacket but the dress fits me very strangely so it didn't work out. After I took pics with the full dress I chopped it up into a skirt thinking, "What would Merrick do?" Much better!

  8. Could you tell me what size you bought? We look to about he same size except my arms may be a bit longer. Thanks!

That jacket is amazing! I think it was the perfect way to keep the dress from looking matronly. You look stellar!

I never thought I would own a faux leather jacket but bought one the other day at The Limited. It's quilted and not what I expected either. Love this paired with the dress.

  12. That jacket is FAB! I assume you are wearing a small? I think it has a biker vibe but its still girly.

  13. My sister bought this dress but didn't like it on herself so she sent it to me. I love it except the waist. How did you get it to not look so frumpy up top?
