Feeling ready for a beach or pool vacation? Here are six cute coverup outfit and swimsuit combo ideas you can copy, whether you’re headed to the lake, the beach, a resort, or the pool.
Needs some ideas to wear over your swimsuit? Here are 6 swim coverup and swimsuit combo ideas you can try for any water related occasion this summer.
Swimsuit coverups can be tricky, and different destinations require different suits and coverups. So, I’ve put together 6 pool, beach, resort, or lake coverup and swimsuit combos that you could wear this summer.
What to wear to the water park:
When we go to the waterpark, I want to make sure I’m wearing a swimsuit that will stay in place if I’m headed down a water slide, has good coverage as I walk around the park, is comfortable for all day, and doesn’t have any cutouts or shapes that will give me a weird sunburn or tan.
The one I’m wearing here is old from Hanna Andersson, and they have built in UV protection. They don’t sell women’s one pieces right now, but THIS SWIMSUIT is similar and has UV protection!
Rubber flip flops are a must for the water park since there is water all over the ground (THESE ARE MY FAVORITE), and a coverup that’s fast drying is always helpful. I hate walking out of the park dripping wet! THIS COVERUP is my favorite for the waterpark…it’s super lightweight and the fabric dries super fast and doesn’t chaff your legs when you walk, and I love the front zipper. It comes in a romper and a dress! Code MERRICK works for 20% off!
I also like bringing a baseball hat for sun protection and cover wet hair on the way out.
You want a big bag for the waterpark too to store snacks and water bottles and towels. THIS ONE is great, is waterproof, and is easy to wipe down.

What to wear to the lake
If I’m headed out on a boat and planning to do water sports, I’m very interested in a swimsuit that has sturdy straps.
Rubber flip flops are also great for being in the boat or on the beach where it might be a little muddy. No need to bring your cute sandals that might get ruined.
A wide brim hat (preferably with strings that hold it under your chin) is a must!
And an insulated backpack is perfect to bring drinks and snacks.THIS ONE is fabulous.
I’ll usually wear a romper or a denim shorts and bring a tee or sweatshirt for more shoulder/arm coverage when we’re out on the boat.

What to wear to a resort
We love going to resorts with our kids, with the beach AND a pool. Since I’m doing some swimming and some just relaxing, I feel a lot more flexibility with my swimsuit. But I want something cute if we stop into a restaurant for lunch. A printed one-shoulder suit is cute and super comfy, and easy to wear with shorts or guazy pants.
If you’re walking around the resort and going to the beach and pool and restaurants, a pair of water friendly and cute/comfy sandals is perfect.
Don’t forget sunglasses, and a nice big bag to hold all the beach toys, sunscreen, towels, and more!

What to wear to a backyard pool party/BBQ
As we head into summer, backyard BBQ’s are regular! Choose a swimsuit you feel comfortable in, since you’ll be in and out of the pool. You can do any kind of coverup, but I feel most comfortable with a pair of shorts so I’m not dealing with lots of flowy fabric that could blow into the mustard.
Adding a BASEBALL HAT for sun coverage, a smaller tote bag the essentials (no need to bring the huge bag!) and some cute sandals makes for a perfect outfit to hang in.

What to wear to the pool
When we go to the pool, we’re usually there for several hours, so I want a suit and a coverup that are both comfortable and dry quickly. I’ve had this soft romper from aerie for a few years and it’s a favorite! It keeps my shoulders covered, and it’s comfortable and cute.
I wear a variety of swimsuits to the pool, and you can wear whatever one is best for you, but when I’m playing with my kids in the water, I want something that’s comfortable and I won’t have to worry about it slipping around.
I wear either rubber flip flops or PATENT LEATHER SANDALS to the pool so I don’t have to worry about them getting wet.
And of course you need a big bag to hold snacks and sunscreen and towels and pool toys and goggles, and this canvas one from LAND’S END is perfect and huge.

What to wear on a couple’s beach trip
If you’re headed on a trip with your significant other or with a few other couples, and no kids are coming, it’s time to pull out the sexier swimsuits! I have this older black one and love how it’s a one piece but still feels sexy with the plunging neckline and square back.
I also love these slightly sheer pants that are great for throwing on to go to the beach or the pool, or for heading to a resort restaurant for some brunch or lunch.
If you need a bigger bag to hold a book, sunscreen, and a towel, try a bigger woven tote bag. But a little bag is super chic for a couple’s trip to take to dinner.
Don’t forget some fun STATEMENT EARRINGS, a stack of BRACELETS, and your favorite SUNGLASSES!
