With Halloween quickly approaching, this round of Sisters Share It All was deemed “DIY Halloween.” Although I’ve never felt that Halloween was my parents very favorite holiday, they always made it a big and fun deal, with costumes made by my mom, a spooky dinner put together by my dad, and, of course, trick or treating.
I’m trying to follow in my parents footsteps in many aspects, and the homemade Halloween costumes happens to be one of them. Last year, I spent hours putting together Peanut’s BYU football costume, so this year that’s getting re-used (since it still fits, he’s willing to wear it, and I have no desire to make an entirely new costume if I don’t have to).
And now that we know baby #2 will be here before Halloween, I felt like I should do something for him (even though he’ll be less than a week old). So since Peanut’s being a football player, there’s nothing better than to dress baby brother up as a football, am I right?
Yes, I am right.
This was super easy to put together, and I did it almost exclusively with materials I had laying around.
Materials:
- Brown baby onesie — or white baby onesie and 1 pkg. dark brown RIT dye (I used the latter)
- White Ribbon (bias tape or fabric work too)
- Fabric glue or hot glue
Step 1. I purchased my RIT dye from JoAnn’s (with a 50% off coupon, so it was only a dollar and change), and followed the instructions in the packaging to dye the onesie brown.
Step 2. Cut your ribbon to your desired length and width. For the thinner ribbon, I just cut the ribbon in half and sealed the edges with a lighter. Using fabric glue (or in my case, hot glue, cause I was out of fabric glue), attach your ribbon to the onesie.
