For most of the country, spring is a weird in between time where it’s a little too warm for boots, and a little too cold for sandals. Here in California it could be sandal weather pretty much all year long, but I’ll forget about that for a minute. And actually, it has been down in the low sixties the last few weeks, so we are experiencing some real spring weather.
So today my sisters and I are talking about “in-between” shoes. The ones you wear after you put away your boots, and before you pull out your sandals.
Every spring my in-between shoes choices change, based on what’s currently trendy, and my ever shifting style. This year there have been two in-between shoes that have definitely been at the top of my list: ankle boots and loafers. About a year ago I hardly had a pair of either, but this year my closet is filled with both. They’re incredibly versatile, come in a million different varieties, colors, styles, and shapes, and both are the perfect spring shoe.
Here are a few of my favorite pairs and some ways to wear them:
chicwish boots // lulu*s boots (similar) // sole society boots (similar)
If you don’t own a pair of ankle boots, you’re seriously missing out. They are THE BEST. I live in these things all spring long (okay, who am I kidding. All year long). They give the foot coverage of a full boot without the heat, and with all the different varieties they will go with absolutely anything. I have wedge pairs, high heeled pairs, flat ones, cut-out ones, low ankle, and high ankle pairs…I mean, I have the full range and I love them all.  Here I’m wearing them with colored pants, a dress, and regular jeans, but they can also be worn with boyfriend jeans, pencil skirts, maxi skirts…you name it. Really, they’re my most worn shoes right now.
shoemint loafers (similar) // lulu*s loafers (similar) // gap loafers
Loafers are such a fun trend right now. They’re menswear inspired, so they add a bit of masculinity to any outfit, so they’re especially fantastic when paired with a feminine dress (which I sadly didn’t have a photo of), because it creates great contrast in an outfit. Try them with coated jeans, white denim, or regular jeans, or pencil skirts, a-line skirts, or any kind of dress. They’re a slightly more sophisticated flat, so wear them with anything to give your outfit a bit of masculine sophistication.

I love loafers… but I'm still on the fence about ankle boots. I love all the ways you wear yours; I think I just haven't found the perfect pair yet. I always feel like they make my legs look fat? Maybe it's just in my head, but I feel that way every time. Should I only wear them with jeans?

  5. love the loafers ..especially the striped ones!

This is a weird compliment, but I love how easily you can post a ton of pictures of yourself–including glam shots–and not come across as self-absorbed. It's really refreshing.

I was thinking this EXACT thing today! I practically have lived in loafers and ankle boots for 2 weeks now. I refuse to wear boots anymore in PA!!
