Why we care so much about the kitchen
Our kitchen is probably the room I spent the most time in. It’s a gathering place, a homework spot, a place where memories are constantly made, and as cheesy as it sounds, it’s totally the heart of our home.
So I wanted our kitchen to be special.
We had a beautiful kitchen in our home in California, so we did a lot of the same things in this house plus a few new things.
Adding a breakfast nook was the best decision ever
The biggest difference was adding the breakfast nook. I have loved breakfast nooks since I was a little girl, and a few months before we moved in, we realized we could make it happen in this house. It’s the best thing ever, and I love how cozy it makes our kitchen!
We hired a local builder to make it for us, including the cushion. And then we found all the pillows at World Market and on Amazon!
Our KITCHEN TABLE and WIRE CHAIRS were both used in our last home, and they fit perfectly with the nook!
Oh, and the big painting on the wall in the breakfast nook was done by me! We’ve had it in our 4 previous homes and I love it so much.
The lighting we chose in the kitchen and breakfast nook
And of course no table or island is complete without lighting! We got this gorgeous Calder Collection Ten-Light Chandelier from Progress Lighting for above the breakfast nook, and then Progress Lighting Penn Collection Globe Pendant Lights (Shop HERE) for above the island.
Details on our finishes
I’ve had a lot of questions on the specific finishes we chose and I finally was able to dig them up!
Black Perimeter counter top: “Granite, San Benedicto Leather”
White Island Counter Top: “Silestone Eternal Calcutta Gold”
Paint color: Sherwin Williams “Extra White”
Cabinets: Shaker style, Sherwin Williams “Extra White” in eggshell
Drawer and Cabinet Pulls LINKED HERE
Backsplash Tile: 3×6 M313 Contempo White Polished #381 “Bright White”
Wood Flooring: Red Oak Engineered Hardwood, 7″ planks, stained “Ebony 231”
Wow, I love this kitchen! Really modern but homey because of the wood (:
