Since we’ve been married, and even had two kids, I’ve never made a big deal about holidays. Christmas and birthdays are always fun occasions and I definitely make an effort on those days, but all those other littler holidays just come and go without more than a mention of them.

But now that Peanut is nearly three, he’s starting to understand and get excited about holidays, so I’m mustering up all my mom skills and trying hard to make these little holidays a special occasion. I want to be that kind of mom, it’s just turns out that it’s a lot of effort.

So for St. Patrick’s Day on Sunday we all wore green (Philip laid out a yellow tie for church the night before and got a scolding — you can’t wear a yellow tie on St. Patrick’s Day!), I made spinach and artichoke melts (green!) and green fruit kabobs (kiwi, green grapes and green apples) for dinner, and we had rainbow jello cups for dessert. We even did a little rainbow craft inspired by my sister.

Now Easter is just around the corner…just thinking about doing a bunch of fun things makes me tired, but I am determined to do better! Wish me luck.

Lucky.

Pretty momma and sweet baby! My sister always goes all out for holidays (her kids are 4 & 2) and it makes me tired just looking at all her decorations. I'm sure I'll try, but I can't make any promises to attempt multi-layered jello 🙂

  2. Love the outfit. It can be tiring to do all of the holiday stuff- but so fun to see how much they love it. With our kids this young I enjoy doing the minimal things that make the most impact on them!

  7. I find that holidays with children are simultaneously exhilarating and exhausting. Very cute outfit – green without looking like a leprechaun.

My husband was fully unaware that if you don't wear green you get pinched! But he played along anyway.

I love your blog! I know you aren't looking for advice or anything, but don't be afraid to ease up on the holiday productions if they are too exhausting 🙂 We keep it simple (except Christmas, obviously! :)) during holidays, because that's what works for us with all that we have going on, and my kids still love them and we have a lot of fun together. Awesome that you did all that though! I bet Peanut loved it!

  10. How do you continue to create awesome things – where do you get the ideas?

It is really gratifying to see how excited your little kids get when you make an effort, isn't it? I like being that mom.

  12. I'm sure you're doing a great job! Sounds like you made St. Patrick's Day a lot of fun! I love this look. One of my favorites. I love all the details from the leopard print belt to the cool thrifted clutch!

  15. I am like you, with a four year old and one year old it's exhausting! I found online a fun Easter tradition to start that I think we might try this year. Fill plastic eggs with grapes, gold fish, gummy bears, cut up pieces of sandwich and put them in the eggs and hide them around the house or yard. Let them "find" their lunch and if it's a nice enough day you can eat outside on a blanket!

My baby's only 7 months, and while I want to make the holidays special for him, I think there's a balance that each mom has to find. I read an article the other day that really helped me to see that we don't have to be super moms and that it's OK for some holidays not to be a big deal. You look so cute by the way! I love your style. http://www.rageagainsttheminivan.com/2013/03/lets-bring-holidays-down-notch.html

  18. I am so with you on this. I feel like PInterest is making me into a failure as a mother since I get exhausted thinking about all the stuff to do for holidays. i have 4 kids ages 11, 8, 6 and 3 and just imagining all that I *could* do for each holiday makes me tired!!!
