Diffusing oils in my home is one of my new favorite things. I don’t have to burn a candle, and it makes my house smell amazing. These are my favorites home essential oils to diffuse in my home.

I’ve started using home essential oils to make my house smell amazing

In the last year I’ve started diffusing home essential oils around my house to make it smell fresh and amazing all the time.

When we first moved into our house, I loved the “new home” smell. But after a while that faded away, and I found myself burning a lot of candles to keep the house from smelling like “musty 8 and 10 year old boys.”

I’ve never used other oils, so using a diffuser felt stressful

But I can’t burn candles all day long, especially if I’m leaving the house, so I finally bought myself a diffuser.

I know nothing about essential oils for healing and wellness (I’ll leave that to other experts), so don’t ask me about those cause I don’t personally use them. But I have to admit that even the thought of using a diffuser a year or two ago seemed confusing. It turns out that most of them just require some water and a few drops of oil, and suddenly your house smells amazing.

Where I put the diffusers in my house

I have three diffusers total right now.

  1. In our living room, I have a wall plug-in diffuser that automatically sends out bursts of scent every few minutes.
    • I love that I don’t have to think about this one, don’t have to add water, and also don’t have to hide cords.
  2. In our bedroom, I have a small diffuser on my bedside table.
    • This one has a cord that plugs into the wall, so I set it on my bedside table and I often refill the water container and add a few drops of oil in the evenings for a few hours while we’re getting ready for bed and relaxing for the night.
  3. I bought THIS ONE for my older boys’ room and it goes up on their dresser.
    • I typically refill this one in the afternoon or evening and let it diffuse all afternoon and evening to keep their room from smelling like sheep. 8 and 10 year old boys can be smelly!

I’m planning to get two more – one for my 4 year old’s room, and one for my office.

These are my current favorite home essential oil scents

  • Crazy Candles Volcano

    • This oil smells exactly like the volcano candles from Anthropologie!
This comes in a 3-pack with 1/2 an ounce of oil each for only $15. Since you only use a few drops per day (I usually add 3-4 drops to my diffuser each time), it lasts for ages.
    • The difference in price for this oil vs. the volcano candle is insane. So if you’re looking for a less expensive alternative to your favorite candle, check this out.
    • I use this one in my bedroom and my boys’ bedroom.
  • AromaTech Santal

    • My friends, Leanne and Lisa, both recommended this scent, so I gave it a try and I love it!
    • It’s more expensive than the volcano oil, but again, compared to buying and burning candles, it’s a great deal.
    • It has a bit of an acquired smell, I think…it took me a few times diffusing it to really enjoy it. It’s musky, almost smokey, masculine, and super sexy. It’s almost like a men’s cologne.
    • I only diffuse this one in my room.
  • California Fresh Home

    • California Fresh Home is actually a new company I just discovered that has the wall plug-in diffusers. You can buy the scents by themselves and diffuse them in whatever diffuser you already own, OR you can buy their wall plug in diffuser and have it automatically diffuse throughout the day. I do the latter.
    • If you buy the scents alone, they’re fairly pricey. But they’re much cheaper if you do a subscription and they’ll send you a new scent every month.
    • So far I’ve only used these scents in my wall plug-in diffuser (I use California Fresh Home’s and it’s only $35), but I plan to diffuse them in our other diffusers as well.
    • The scents are actually made to REFRESH the air in your room (like Febreeze!), rather than just covering up smells.
    • My favorite scents from their collection are:
      • Torrey Pines (a great winter smell – it smells woodsy and like a fresh cut pine tree. I diffused this for most of December)
      • Main Street Christmas (perfect orange and cinnamon combination that smells exactly like Christmas should. This is still diffusing in my house, even though it’s half way through January).
      • Golden Coast (it has hints of lemon, coconut, and vanilla. It smells fresh and homey at the same time!)
      • Capo Berry (This has a really sweet, delicious berry scent)
      • Ojai Groves (this smells like you’re driving through an orange grove! So sweet and citrusy.)
      • Napa Bergamot (this has notes of sandalwood and musk, and is more of that deep, homey, sexy scent).
    • You can buy all of these (and their wall plug-in diffuser) on their site RIGHT HERE.
