I’ve shared a lot of gift guides over the last month, but here’s what we’re actually getting our boys for Christmas this year!
What we’re giving our kids for Christmas
There have been tons of gift guides here on Merrick’s Art for the last month (you can see them all RIGHT HERE), but today I wanted to share what we’re actually giving our kids for Christmas this year.
What we’re giving our 12 year old:
- Last year we got the boys a PS5 and although I’ve been fairly anti-video game for so long, I’ve discovered that it’s made our house into one of the fun houses with lots of things to do and play. We got some extra controllers and a bunch of fun and popular games (they mostly love the sports games – NBA2K and Madden) and we often have a house full of boys over on the weekends playing together. So this year we’re doing Nintendo Switches for the boys to add to the fun. We only let them play video games on the weekends, so there are plenty of boundaries with video games, and that’s made it so it’s something that works for our family and for me as a parent. I’m actually really excited to play Mario Kart with them and other fun games on these Nintendo Switches, and I think it’ll be fun for the whole family and their friends.
- I bought two of these Finders Seekers escape rooms for B for his birthday earlier this year and they were such a hit that he asked for them again! It’s actually a subscription so I just paid for two months and then cancelled. He did it with his friends and it took them about an hour to solve it, and it was a ton of fun. Highly recommend for a birthday party or a fun Christmas break activity with friends.
- Philip and I both attended BYU and our kids are now huge BYU fans. B needs a new hoodie for the winter, so when I found this one on Zulily for a steal, I grabbed it. It’s an adult size, so I just got the size small and he can grow into it.
- I always like to find a new book series for each of the boys for Christmas, and this one looks awesome with biographies of the world’s greatest athletes. B has been VERY into sports this year, so this will be a fun series for him to read. And since he reads so much on his kindle, I don’t know all the books he has read, but I can guarantee he hasn’t read this series and will love it.
- This was specifically on his wishlist! We love games in our family, and any game that we can find that’s a Harry Potter themed version is a win for my kids. (If you’re looking for another Harry Potter game, THIS ONE is one of our very favorites and it’s collaborative so everyone plays against the game and there are no tears at the end!)
- Football cards are back and my boys are obsessed with them. They’re each getting a pack of trading cards for Christmas..
- I discovered that you can customize Nike Sneakers so they’re exactly what you want, so I secretly had my boys design their own (I showed them the page and they had fun playing around with it) and then ordered a pair for the two older boys (they only come in men and women’s sizes, so I’m doing small women’s sizes for them so they fit!)
Stockings:
We always put socks and underwear in our kids stockings, plus some candy and another small thing or two.
- Unique Soda (I shared about this tradition HERE)
- Boxer briefs
- Low cut socks
- (candy, of course!)
What we’re getting our 10 year old:
- I mentioned above that we’re doing Nintendo Switches for the kid’s “big gifts” — they’re going to be so excited about these and they’ll be a fun addition to our video game collection, and something we can do as an entire family!
- Our 10 year old doesn’t play with LEGOs much anymore, but he asked for a “really hard LEGO set” for Christmas. He just likes the challenge of putting together the set! So I found him this fun Harry Potter Grimmauld Place one and I think he’s going to love it since we just finished the whole Harry Potter series!
- I hadn’t heard of this book series, but it looks good and the plot seems like one that Fos will love. It’ll keep him nice and busy on Christmas break!
- My boys love collector cards and Philip picked these out for them.
New T-shirts
- I found this cool Nike tee at Zulily and had to grab it for him. I also got this basketball one that he’ll love.
Stocking
- Unique Soda (I shared about this tradition HERE)
- New boxer briefs
- (candy, of course)
What we’re getting our 6 year old:
- I mentioned above that we’re doing Nintendo Switches for the kid’s “big gifts” — they’re going to be so excited about these and they’ll be a fun addition to our video game collection, and something we can do as an entire family!
- San needed a new hoodie for winter, so I found him this cute basketball one on Zulily. He’s playing basketball this year and I think he’ll love it!
- This was on his list, because he had an old clock that stopped working, so it’s time for a new clock. This one has the weather, the date, and more, so I think he’ll be excited for all the extra features!
- San is still loving LEGOs and plays with them everyday. So I found a couple to give to him. I got this cool Star Wars LEGO set and this Ninjago one.
- We’ve checked some of these Bad Guys books out from the library, but we don’t own any, and I think San will love this funny series.
- This was on Sanny’s christmas wishlist, and although he already has a squishmallow, these are just so fun and squishable that I couldn’t resist getting him another one and making his dreams come true.
- Since the other boys are getting football and basketball cards, Sanny asked for Pokemon cards (even though he’s not that into Pokemon). But they’re fun to look through and organize and they play random games with them, so he’ll enjoy a new set! I’m also getting him THIS BINDER to keep them organized and not all over the floor all the time.
Stocking:
- Unique Soda (I shared about this tradition HERE)
- Boxer Briefs – these are his favorite, so comfy!
