In the last few months, Peanut has turned into a total copycat, repeating pretty much everything that we say. Neither Philip nor I swear, but we still say words that I don’t really want my almost two-year-old saying — words like “Dang,” “Heck,” and “Stupid,” just sound like swear words coming out of a baby’s mouth, don’t you think?

Because of this, we’ve both made a very conscious effort to change the phrases we say to things we don’t mind him repeating. It makes me feel like a total grandma walking around saying things like “Goodness gracious!” and “Oh, Dear!” but it makes it all worth it when he drops his fork on the floor during dinner and says, very dramatically, “Oh, HEAVENS!”

It’s the little things.

I love your layers! The purple sweater looks great on you!

  3. We don't swear either, but my husband has a real problem with the word crap. Luckily, the bug hasn't picked up on it… yet. But it is seriously so cute when she gets excited about something and say, "oh, goodness!"

You are awesome at layering. Love this outfit.

  4. I giggled at the thought of an almost two year old saying "Oh, HEAVENS!" Great job on the dress. I love your clutch!

I just found your blog and love it, and that striped dress is so cute. I can't believe you made it. I got a sewing maching for Christmas last year (2010) and still haven't done anything! Also I love your post about pinterest and blogging, couldn't agree more with you.

  18. Beautiful! I love the stripes with the weave of your sweater. Your scarf is beautiful as well.

  19. your striped dress is so stinkin cute! love how you layered a sweater over it. p.s. that last pic of you is just gorgeous. love it.

  20. Jenn says:

Working in NYC, I could never get my students to stop swearing in class. They just don't realize they're saying it most of the time. I constantly have to remind them to use other words.

I love the color of that sweater over the striped dress. I'll have to try this look sometime!

  21. Kate says:

What a crack up! My husband used to teach Gymboree music and one of his fave kids yelled "Holy Balogna!" after a particularly rambunctious song. Non curse excaimations are so endearing!
And may we talk about the proportions of this lovely little number? Co chic and cozy all at the same time. Lovely!

  22. Earle-girl says:

I LOVE your layers! (Over from Freckles…)

Let me recommend "Blast!" as a fantastic swear substitute. It gives you enough verbal explosion to actually satisfy you, and it still sounds cute coming from your 2-year-old. 😉

  23. Kayla says:

It's amazing how bad "crap" sounds coming from a 3 year old. We've tried to cut that one out around here.

I LOVE every single piece here. I have serious thrifting jealousy over that clutch.

  24. this outfit is absolutely adorbs! plum is beginning to be my favorite color, so i die for that sweater you're wearing! and also, though i don't have a baby of my own, I know what you mean about words like "dang" sounding so wrong coming from a baby's mouth : )

  25. Monica says:

I visibly remember when you got that scarf and began to wear it all over London. It was dashing on you then as well as now–love your clothes, girl!
