CLOSET ESSENTIALS, PART 2 // FIT + FLARE DRESS

A few weeks ago I posted Part 1 of my Closet Essentials Series. And in no particular order of favorites, here is part 2!

CLOSET ESSENTIAL 2 // FIT & FLARE DRESS
If you don’t own a dress in this shape, go buy yourself one right now. This style of dress is so flattering, so versatile, and so on-trend. It’s my absolute favorite dress style right now and is perfect for showing off your bare legs during the summer! I’ve been wearing this one constantly since I got it a few weeks ago!

HOW TO WEAR THEM:

  • My Old Navy dress that I’m wearing here is made of a soft knit and obviously has a short sleeve. The combination of the two makes for a super versatile dress that can be dressed up or dressed down. I’ve worn it with my leopard sneakers and a pony tail for a super casual look, or here with heels and a statement necklace for a dressier ensemble.
  • For the sleeveless fit and flare dresses, the options are endless. I’d wear them layered with a chambray during the summer and a turtleneck during the winter.
  • If you wear a cardigan or jacket over it, make sure it hits near the dress’s waistline — either right at it, or slightly below. Shorter will look dated, and longer will cover the tiny waistline that these dresses give.
  • Try a vest with them — I’m dying to try my olive utility vest with this dress!
  • Belt it! To accentuate your tiny waist even more, try a belt. A skinny option usually looks best since it makes a slim line right around the waistband of the dress.
WHERE TO BUY THEM:
I’ve rounded up a few of my favorites around the web — check them out in the widget below!
!function(d,s,id){var e, p = /^http:/.test(d.location) ? ‘http’ : ‘https’;if(!d.getElementById(id)) {e = d.createElement(s);e.id = id;e.src = p + ‘://’ + ‘d27mzdfpkg2pgg.cloudfront.net’ + ‘/js/shopthepost.js’;d.body.appendChild(e);}if(typeof window.__stp === ‘object’) if(d.readyState === ‘complete’) {window.__stp.init();}}(document, ‘script’, ‘shopthepost-script’);

  • Such a cute summer dress – I love the stripes with that bright necklace!

  • What did you do about the back of the dress? I just got one and it's a bit lower than I'd like. Seems like sizing up would make it worse, and I can't take up the shoulders without losing length. For now I just wear an undershirt, but wondering if you have any brilliant ideas!

    • I think an undershirt is your best bet. Or you can find some similar fabric and insert a panel in the back!

  • Love it. Nice timing saying that there's a tutorial soon! I have the green version sitting in my altering pile but it's still sitting there since I hadn't wrapped my head around the fact that it's a pullover not zippered. If you hadn't said tutorial soon, I was thinking of having you stop up here to help me.

  • Beautiful! Love the dress, it looks great!

  • I have the green version of that dress and I adore it! It's perfect to throw on for a dinner out, though I love to wear it to work. It's so comfortable and simple, but I look like I'm tried to look cute.

  • Fits just as it is described. I got so many compliments when I wore it out that it was probably one of the best dress purchases I've ever made! And at a fraction of the cost.

  • Fit and flare dresses are the best shape for my body, and I have plenty of them in my closet. I LOVE them and always feel so beautiful and feminine in them. They're so much fun to dress up or down, too. I have the same dress you have in gray/white stripes and teal/white stripes, and I love them both 🙂
