I’ve spent my whole life using non-natural deodorant, but overnight I decided to switch to an aluminum-free all-natural deodorant from Kopari. Let me tell you about it.

I never thought I’d switch to natural deodorant

I have to start this post by saying I was one of those people who never thought I would switch to natural deodorant. Ever.

I thought it was way too granola, and I was sure that it wouldn’t actually work.

The reason I ditched my non-natural deodorant

But toward the end of the summer I was in the shower and I found a lump in my armpit. The moment I felt it, I panicked. I’m not really a worrier, but this completely caught me off guard and scared the heck out of me.

My immediate thought was my deodorant. I knew that non-natural deodorant had aluminum, and although I’d used non-natural my whole life and literally had never thought once about it, it was suddenly consuming my thoughts. I kept thinking about all the times that I’d cut myself shaving and then put deodorant on right after, and wondering if those chemicals were heading straight into my bloodstream. And now here I was with a lump in my armpit.

This is super dramatic, and the good news was that the lump turned out to be a really bad ingrown hair. But for two days before that lump showed any inflammation and was obviously an ingrown hair, I was stressed.

So this is the story of how an ingrown hair convinced me to switch to natural deodorant.

I’d heard buzz about a brand called Kopari online for the past year or so, so their brand was the first brand that came to mind when I started deciding which ones to try.

My main stipulations for an all natural deodorant were these:

  1. It had to work. Obviously. Because I’ve used non-natural deodorants for the last twenty years and had expectations.
  2. It had to be aluminum free.
  3. It had to smell good.

So I put Kopari to the test, and I was thrilled when it passed with flying colors.

The reasons I’m loving Kopari’s Coconut Deodorant

It has an amazing coconut smell, it’s aluminum free, and after trying it for a while I’ve been very impressed with how well it actually works.

Also it goes on clear so you never get deodorant marks on your clothes — an unexpected bonus!

The important thing to know is that when you stop using non-natural deodorant, your body has to go through a detox phase — Kopari calls this the “Two Week Stink,” where you’ll probably need to apply it more than once a day for it to be fully effective because your pores in your armpits are unplugging and detoxing. Gross, but true.

You can check out the video about it here:

More than anything, this switch has given me peace of mind because I know the ingredients I’m putting in and on my body are clean and non toxic.

I switched to natural deodorant 35 years ago after ruining several pieces of clothing with underarm stains. I have never looked back. Desert Essence and Queen Helene mint julep have worked for me.

Love this! I had a similar OH S&%T moment before I made my switch to natural deodorant. I use the brand native, and absolutely love it. never going back to a non-natural product. its just so not worth your health, especially when there are wonderful natural alternatives on the market that work!

I switched to natural deodorant a few years ago and went through my share of ones that didn’t work. Then I found the easiest, cheapest, and most effective solution of all: coconut oil. I know it sounds crazy and like, how could applying oil prevent stinky pits, but there is a reason is a reason why many natural deodorants smell like coconut – they’re made with coconut oil. So why not just go straight to the source? I warm up a big glob of coconut oil until it’s liquid, then mix in whatever essential oils I want (peppermint and lavender are really good). Then stick it in the fridge to harden back up. I don’t store it in the fridge – I just keep it in my bathroom in a leak-proof small wide Mason jar. It works so well!

I’m all for moving to more natural products if you feel so inclined. But perpetuating fear about claims that Aluminum based deodorant pose health risks (speCifically Breast cancer) when There is no good scientific support for it is not very responsible. Also, isn’t it disingenuous to Do this campaign so closely on the heels of a big campaiGn for Secret Clinical Strength?

i switched TO natural/aluminum-free deodorant about a year ago and didn’t start having lumps (horribly painful) until a few months ago. Turns out they are boils (ugh) and they do start with ingrown hairs. i totally feel your pain. still haven’t figured out why i was getting them but even ended up on antibiotics (which is ironic, considering it started after trying to be natural).

People must learn to appreciate nature. This is the only way we can serve our children. It is worth starting with the little things like landscaping. Bring your home closer to nature.
