As we head into spring, skirts become staples in my closet. You can still wear them with sweaters and boots, but on warm days they’re so perfect with flats or sneakers and a cute top.

This WHITE PLEATED SKIRT has been in my closet for probably five years and it just never goes out of style. It’s a fantastic skirt for dressing up and dressing down, and today I want to give you a few ideas for dressing it down for daytime.

Also, keep in mind that these tips apply to any skirt — not just pleated midi skirts!

Sneakers instantly dress down a skirt.

I love wearing my skirts with sneakers because they add a casual and cool vibe to any outfit. Keep your sneakers slim and neutral and low cut around the ankle for the most flattering look.

Try dressing your skirt down with a t-shirt

You know I’m crazy about good tees. Striped ones, graphic ones, solid ones, v-neck or crew neck ones…they’re all good in my book.

Tucking an easy t-shirt into a skirt instantly dresses up the tee a bit, and dresses down the skirt a bit. A perfect casual day look you could wear on vacation, to lunch with friends, to the office on casual Friday, or at home just because.

A ponytail is a quick and easy way to dress down an outfit.

Don’t forget you can dress down an outfit with a casual hairstyle! If you’re wearing a skirt during the day and feeling a little too dressed up, toss your hair in a high ponytail!
