button up: target (altered), dress: gap (refashioned — two shirts made into a dress (tutorial coming someday)), leggings: target, socks: target, boots: target
Sometimes an outfit looks better in the mirror than it does in real life. Case in point, I got dressed yesterday, went through half my day, and then finally got around to taking pictures. When I uploaded them, I realized that all those stripes were pretty overwhelming, and I didn’t love it.
I threw on a belt, did one more roll on each sleeve, (fixed my hair), and re-took my pictures (this time I was too lazy to go outside):
 belt: macy’s
One little change and the outfit is a million times better (in my opinion). A public apology to all those who saw me before 2:00pm today. Their eyes are probably still spinning from the miles of unobstructed stripes.

I follow you on Pinterest too, and I love seeing you incorporate styles you've pinned into real outfits. It really inspires me to be more creative with the clothes I own (instead of swooning over clothes I wish I owned!).

    Love your blog!

  2. It's crazy to see how a little thing can make such a big difference. It's a cool aspect of having a style blog, to play around with those things and learning!

  3. You are right the belt really pulled the outfit together, I'm so glad you tried it because the final look is pretty amazing (pinning it!) I didn't expect taking pictures of my clothes to my so educational but you really do get a different perspective from a photo than a mirror.

  4. This is what I love about clothes–little details make all the difference. I love this look with the belt!

I love this! I almost wore my denim shirt under a dress today, but then I chickened out of wearing a dress on a non church day 🙂

  6. Mel says:

The belt definitely elevated the outfit! Great eye for the change! Gorgeous dress, also!

Wow! I am shocked that something so small, like a belt, can make such a huge difference. The outfit is completely changed. You look great, as usual!

  8. Both are awesome, but the belt adds so so so much! I love it! And your braid is so cute! Another thing I'm jealous of besides your sewing skills… your braiding ability! Haha.

And we are kinda twinners. I wore a a dress similar to this a couple weeks ago with gray socks but black boots. I didn't love it on me, though, so I haven't decided if I'm going to post those pics or not.

I love it! It's like you were in my closet, lol. I got a dress that looks a lot like this this weekend and I was thinking I'd have to wait until it gets warmer so I can wear it with my spring navy shoes…then I see that I can pull it off with boots. I can't wait to get home and try this look out!

Nice! I feel like I didn't realize the outfit was missing anything, but the addition of the belt was like…Ohhh yeah! That looks a lot better! Someday I'll be fashion savvy…until then I'll just follow your blog:)

So cute! Love it with and without the belt.

  13. Janssen says:

    Definitely improved by the belt.

I have the opposite problem – I think the pictures of my outfits look better than I look in real life.

  14. Loren says:

I like the second look better definitely, the belt definitely adds to the outfit.
I have done this a 'come home and mix things up' thing a couple of time. It's editing, like the Director's cut.

  15. Ugh, I HATE when an outfit is better in your head than in actuality. The changes you made really made a huge difference!

Such a great way to style that dress! I just got a similar dress from F21 in the mail and am excited about trying some of your ideas. I found this blog earlier today, and am loving it. 🙂

  19. I think you look great both ways! This dress is so fabulous.

    See Me Rwar
