Do you own all of these stay at home staples? If you work from home or are a stay at home mom, or just spend most of your time at home, this Stay At Home Capsule Wardrobe is for you!

The Stay at Home Capsule Wardrobe

I’m so excited about today’s post because it’s something that I think so many of us need! It’s time to show you my Stay At Home Capsule Wardrobe.

I don’t do a true capsule wardrobe for my closet, but I think they’re a great resource for determining the staples and essentials in your closet.

So we can call this “Stay at Home Staples,” or “Stay at Home Capsule Wardrobe” – whichever you prefer.

This capsule wardrobe is full of comfortable, casual basics

Either way, this post is full of items that are great staples to have if you work from home, you’re a stay at home mama, or you just need a list of casual, comfortable basics for your closet.

The point of this capsule wardrobe

Don’t feel like you need to run out and buy everything on this list.

The point of me sharing this stay at home capsule wardrobe is for you to see what basics and essentials you should probably have in your closet (you may have some or most of them already).

And then I want to show you how to mix and match these pieces! Your closet has so much potential – sometimes it just takes a little creativity to put the outfits together.

Now let me show you how to mix and match these pieces into outfits!

SWEATPANTS + TEE + CARDIGAN

Remember how I said you could split up the matching sweatsuit and use it as two different pieces? Here’s an example.

I wore the sweatpants on the bottom, then paired with a basic tee.

For extra warmth (since I’m almost always cold in my house), I added a cardigan and slippers. Perfect super casual stay at home outfit.

Don’t forget the accessories!!

In the collage near the top of the post, I listed a few other essential items for a stay at home capsule wardrobe.

Like, a good bra. THIS ONE is by far my most supportive and comfortable.

Also, a good pair of pajamas. Do yourself a favor and get some and toss the old, ratty t-shirts and sweats. You deserve to have a great pair of pajamas. These ones are fantastic (and these ones are similar with a short sleeve).

And, of course, some jewelry (like my favorite everyday earrings), sunglasses, and handbags. These are great pieces to help an outfit feel finished.

Don’t forget this!

Don’t forget – this list is not the end-all-be-all. It is not comprehensive. It is a list of basics that are super versatile and comfortable, and are staples in a closet.

Also, you don’t need these exact items! Look through your closet and see what similar pieces you have where you can recreate these outfits.

And, of course, I hope this Stay At Home Capsule Wardrobe is helpful for you!

Now let me show you how to mix and match these pieces into outfits!

sweater with sneakers

SWEATER + JEANS + SNEAKERS

A solid colored pullover sweater is a great closet staple. Yours doesn’t have to be tan (and this sweater comes in lots of other colors).

Half tucking the sweater into jeans is an easy and comfortable outfit for staying at home. Toss on a baseball cap if your hair is dirty, and some sneakers to complete the casual outfit.

white tee with leggings

TEE + LEGGINGS + JACKET AROUND THE WAIST

This is a super easy outfit combination, with a basic tee and leggings. I made it feel a little more finished with a jacket tied around my waist.

Other variations:

  • you could swap the white tee for a printed or graphic tee
  • swap the sandals for sneakers
  • try a long sleeved tee around your waist instead of the jacket
  • skip the hat and try a ponytail
jumpsuit with denim jacket

JUMPSUIT + SANDALS

A jumpsuit is a really great one-and-done kind of outfit. It’s easy to wear and super comfortable. THIS ONE looks crazy comfortable.

I layered a denim jacket over the top, but you could wear it alone or layer a cardigan over the top.

Also sneakers look very cute with cropped leg jumpsuits!

dress with graphic tee

DRESS + OVERSIZED TEE + SNEAKERS

For those hot days when you don’t want anything touching you, this super lightweight comfortable dress is amazing.

It’s great on its own, but try layering an oversized tee over it to create a totally new look!

You could wear this with sandals or boots (or slippers, of course), but I went with a white sneaker.

lounge set with denim jacket

MATCHING SET + DENIM JACKET + SNEAKERS

Did any of us make it all the way through 2020 without purchasing a matching sweatsuit set? I doubt it.

Now’s the time to pull it out and either wear it alone, or toss a jacket over the top and make the outfit feel finished.

Also basic matching sets are awesome cause you can mix and match the top and bottom into other outfits!

t-shirt dress with striped tee and sandals

T-SHIRT DRESS + TEE + SANDALS

Here’s a full look at this amazing t-shirt dress.

Again, you can wear it as a stand alone dress, but a tee tied around your waist gives you a little more shape (like a belt!) and the stripes add some interest to the outfit.

You could also do lots of different shoe options with this outfit, but a basic sandal works great.

sweater with leggings

SWEATER + LEGGINGS + ANKLE BOOTS

Here’s this pullover sweater again!

Instead of wearing with jeans, dress it down a bit and pair it with leggings. The longer length makes it easy to do, and this outfit will be crazy comfortable for staying at home.

You could do any shoes with this, but I liked the black ankle boots for a sleek look.

cardigan with graphic tee

CARDIGAN + GRAPHIC TEE + LEGGINGS

If this isn’t the perfect lounging outfit, I don’t know what is.

A cute graphic tee with comfy leggings and a cozy sweater is only made better with slippers. This is perfect for those comfy days when you’re home all day but still want to feel a little pulled together.

Of course, you could always swap out the cardigan for another jacket, or the tee for a solid or printed tee. Lots of variations here!

navy polka dot dress with sandals

COMFY DRESS + SANDALS

Even a “stay at home” capsule wardrobe needs a few pieces that are a little bit nicer and can be dressed up. Especially for those days when you work from home and have a meeting. But the key is to choose pieces that are uber comfy so you don’t sacrifice style or comfort.

This navy polka dot dress is SO comfortable, super lightweight, and so flattering. You can wear it with or without the tie, depending if you want to accentuate your waist.

Toss it on with nice sandals and you have a semi dressed up stay at home outfit.

navy polka dot dress with denim jacket

COMFY DRESS + JACKET + SNEAKERS

Here’s an easy way to dress down this dress — add a light wash denim jacket, toss on some sneakers, and add a baseball hat.

Suddenly your nice dress is casual enough to run the kids to the park, or grab lunch with friends, or head to soccer practice.

floral top and jeans

NICE TOP + JEANS + SANDALS

This floral top is the second “nice” piece that I put in the capsule wardrobe, and again I think it’s important to have a few nicer pieces that you can mix and match when you want to feel a little more dressed up. Or if you have a Zoom call and need your upper half to look professional.

I wore mine with dark wash jeans and leather sandals for a casual, chic look.

Here are some other ways you could wear this “nicer” top:

  • cut off shorts
  • boyfriend jeans
  • white jeans
  • tucked into a skirt
  • with dress pants
jeans with cardigan

CARDIGAN + NICE TOP + JEANS

Remember, you can layer your nice top under a cardigan to dress it down a bit and make it nice and comfy for staying at home!

Toss on some jeans (or you could do leggings), and ankle boots for an elongated, sleek leg line.

cardigan with slippers

SWEATPANTS + TEE + CARDIGAN

Remember how I said you could split up the matching sweatsuit and use it as two different pieces? Here’s an example.

I wore the sweatpants on the bottom, then paired with a basic tee.

I PINNED THIS OF COURSE! i HAVE MANY OF THE PIECES YOU’VE SHOWN AND i HAVE ENOUGH IN MY CLOSET TO ADAPT TO FILL IN. iNSTEAD OF A JUMPSUIT (THE DIFFICULTY IN THE BATHROOM STALL!) i’D USE YOGA PANTS AND MATCHING t SHIRT. iNSTEAD OF LEGGINGS, i’VE GOT JOGGERS.
i MIGHT TRY PULLING ALL THESE PIECES PLUS A FEW MORE TO A CENTRAL SPOT IN MY CLOSET AND TRY DRESSING JUST FROM THAT FOR A MONTH. iT’S A FUN CHALLENGE.

    tHANKS FOR THE INSPIRATION.

By the way, sometimes it happens that no application or site is suitable, especially if you are looking for something for your own business.
