A few weeks ago, my sister Janssen and I were hanging out (while she was here in Utah), and we thought it would be fun to start a little sister blog series with her, me, and our little sister, Landen. We’ve decided to post every few weeks about various topics, giving you three different takes on one thing, and then if you feel so inclined, you can link up and share your take on the subject!

 And so, here is Sister’s Share It All, edition one:

Today was Janssen’s pick, and she chose “our current library books.” I’ve always used Janssen (and her blog) as a resource for books to read, so this list might be of no interest to her since she’s probably read and/or recommended all of them…but they may be of some interest to you.

Oh, and I’m sort of cheating, because this is the stack I’m working through and only three of the five are from the library.

The Weed That Strings the Hangman’s Bag by Alan Bradley

• This series was recommended to me by RA, and this is the second book in the series. They are very fun and clever stories, and I especially like listening to them on CD.

Red Herring Without Mustard by Alan Bradley

• This is the third book in the series and although I’m only two CD’s in, I’m liking it already.

The Hot Mom’s Handbook by Jessica Denay

• I got this book as a birthday gift from my wonderful friend, Brit. I haven’t read it cover to cover, but flipping from section to section has been very fun — very cute read.

Split by Swati Avasthi

• I’m only about fifteen pages in, so I don’t have much to say about it. But Janssen recommended it, so I’m expecting good things.

Dinner: A Love Story by Jenny Rosenstrach  

• My mom gave me this for my birthday and I finally went through the whole thing this weekend, reading many of the stories and looking through the recipes. Lots of great recipes, and very inspiring stories about family meal time, feeding small children, and making dinner simple and fun.

Cats! by Larry Brimner

• Peanut is starting to read, so we wander over to the early reader section of the library each week and I let him choose a beginner reading book. This is a really lame book, but it’s good for his skill level.

Clifford’s Spring Clean-Up by Norman Bridwell

• Peanut is a big Clifford fan. I also like them because they teach simple lessons without being too wordy and without sibling rivalry/fighting (which I really dislike as a way to teach lessons). 

Clifford Gets a Job by Normal Bridwell

Freight Train by Donald Crews

• We’re also big fans of Donald Crews’ books. His colorful illustrations and simple text makes it enjoyable for both of us.

School Bus by Donald Crews

Mike Mulligan and His Steam Shovel by Virginia Lee Burton

• This is Peanut’s favorite book that we currently have checked out. It’s a really sweet story, and although it’s pretty long, he amazingly sits through the entire thing every single time.

A Birthday for Bear by Bonnie Becker

• We’ve checked out several of these Bear and Mouse, and I love them. They are so funny, so even though they’re a little long, I will gladly read them over and over just for a good laugh. 

Flora’s Very Windy Day by Jeanne Birdsall

• Not my favorite book. Like I mentioned above with the Clifford books, I don’t like books that have sibling rivalry or fighting. This has a bit of that, although it is resolved at the end. Also, when I have to edit “hate” or “stupid” out of books so my child does not pick them up, it’s a big negative for me.

Grandpa’s Tractor by Michael Garland

• This is a sweet story, and since it’s about tractors, it’s a big winner in Peanut’s book.
