Let’s talk about what shoes to wear with wider leg pants
As wide leg pants get more popular, I’ve been getting more questions about how to wear them!
I did a post about how to wear them last year, so check that out for other outfit tips, but today let’s specifically talk about what shoes to wear with them.
What shoes can you wear with wide leg jeans?
- Flats
- Loafers
- Sneakers
- Mules
- Ankle boots
- High top sneakers
- Pumps
- Wedges
The answer is pretty much any style of shoe! The goal is to make sure you balance the shoe and the wider pant leg.
A few tips for wearing shoes with wide leg pants:
- If you’re wearing a cropped pair (which is basically all I wear in this style right now), it should hit at or right above your ankle bone. So you should have a gap between your shoe and the end of your pant leg.
- If you’re wearing higher top sneakers or boots, they should be fitted against your ankle to give that a nice narrow shape, and then tuck right inside the leg of your pant. Or there should be only a small gap.
- Try to avoid a large ankle gap if your boots are tall…if there’s too much a gap, your pants are too short. You don’t want a leg gap in the middle of your calf.
Here are a few examples of shoes with wider leg pants
A pair of neutral flats, like loafers or oxfords, are a great choice to wear with wide leg pants.
The elongated toe is really flattering against the wider leg, and a little lifted sole makes you have better posture and a nicer silhouette than a completely flat shoe with no sole.
Yes, you can wear them with ankle boots!
Choose ankle boots with a narrow shaft so you avoid a blocky ankle. You can leave a gap between the boots or not (if it’s cold, avoid the gap), but the gap shouldn’t be more than 2″.

Yes, you can wear them with heels AND with sneakers! Here are two examples of to show you how great they can look.
With sneakers, choose ones that are low cut and have an elongated shape so you don’t give yourself a stumpy look.
With heels, pretty much anything goes…pumps, wedges, opened toed, pointed, square toe…the heel gives you a great lift so pretty much any option will keep your leg line elongated.
