How to wear cropped wide leg pants
Happy Monday! Let’s talk about how to wear cropped wide leg pants for today’s Four Ways To Wear It!
I’ve been looking for a good pair of cropped wide leg pants for spring. I recently saw this pair on my friend Cori, from Dress Corilynn, immediately bought them, and have worn them three times since they arrived last week. They’re just SO GOOD.
How to wear this style of pants if you’re petite
After I bought them, I thought it would be fun to share a four ways to wear it with Cori, since she’s petite and I’m a little above average. You can see how a pair of pants like this can work no matter your height!
So after you check out my four outfits, check out Cori’s post with four additional outfit ideas with these cropped wide leg pants.
How these cropped wide leg pants should fit
I’ve tried multiple pairs of cropped wide leg pants, and the fit on this style can be tricky. Here are a few tips:
- They should fit well around the waist – no gapping at the waistband.
- Avoid pairs that are too tight on your hips and look like they’re squeezing you. They should breeze nicely over your hips. Go up a size and get the waist tailored if the fit isn’t quite right (or try another pair).
- The length should hit about 2 inches above your ankle bone. Longer than that begins to look like high water pants, and shorter than that begins to look like capri pants.
I’m wearing a size 2R (normally a size 26 in jeans) and I’m 5’6″. This size and length fit me perfectly.
If you’re petite, check out Cori’s post today for fit and length on her (she’s just under 5’0″).
Cropped wide leg pants outfit #1: short sleeve sweater
Cropped wide leg outfit idea #2: a simple t-shirt
You can absolutely dress down these pants. Just try a basic t-shirt in a solid color, a stripe, or even a graphic tee.
A t-shirt with a little looser fit will help balance the fullness of the pants (i wouldn’t recommend a super fitted tee or bodysuit unless you add a jacket), and make sure you tuck or half tuck the shirt so your waistband is accentuated.
Cropped wide leg pants outfit idea #3: Half tucked sweater
Since the sweater is oversized, give it a half tuck (a full tuck with sweaters is often too bulky) to accentuate your waist.
I chose some neutral oxford shoes — the almond toe gives me a really nice elongated late line (important with wide leg pants), and the color similar to my skin tone helps visually elongate my foot as well.
Cropped wide leg pants outfit idea #4
A pair of pointed heels gives you lift and an elongated leg line, both of which are great with cropped wide leg pants.
I hope that gives you a few easy formulas for wearing this kind cropped wide leg pant.
