I’ve seen so many fashion bloggers rocking big ol’ statement necklaces over the past few months, and although I thought they looked awesome wearing them, I was not a personal believer. I’m all about tiny, delicate jewelry, remember?

Well, then Wild About Jewelry contacted me and generously wanted to send me a piece of their jewelry. With nothing to lose, I jumped at the chance to try out a big fat statement necklace. I went with the Red Bib Necklace, and the moment it showed up and I tried it on, I was a believer.

In fact, I’m so much of a believer, that I immediately starting formulating all sorts of outfits around this necklace, and the millions of ways I could wear it. It’s so simple — throw it on to add a punch of color, unify an outfit, add visual interest, or just complete an outfit.

And so I bring you. . .edition three of One Piece, Five Ways (here are editions 1 & 2).

1. casual

t-shirt: target, jeans: h&m maternity, wedges: old navy

Jeans and a t-shirt is like the easiest thing to throw on, right? But since it’s so basic, it typically looks plain and a little under-done. Adding a statement necklace and some wedges makes it a super cute and put together outfit. And since the necklace and the t-shirt are monochromatic, it makes a little bit less of a statement and keeps it casual.

2. Maxi

button up, maxi dress, & sandals: target

I’ve seen people knotting their chambray shirts for a while now, but this is the first time I’ve done it. It adds some visual interest, and is the perfect way for me to continue using my chambray since it currently barely buttons over my stomach. But even with the knot detail, the ensemble is too simple. Add a big statement necklace and BAM. You have a complete outfit.

3. Neutral

striped shirt: lucky brand via sams club, jeans: ross (altered), flats: payless

There is definitely a place in this world for neutral outfits, no doubt about that. But with a very simple and neutral ensemble like this one, a statement necklace adds a perfect pop of color and completes the outfit nicely.

4. Color Blocking

purple top: gap, red pants: f21, sandals: target

I love a good color blocked outfit, but adding the statement necklace (in a color similar to the pants) here creates some unity in the outfit that doesn’t exist in the before outfit.

5. Dressy

black dress: downeast basics, heels: target

The little black dress is a classic, perfect for any dressy occasion. But a simple black dress such as this one definitely calls for a little something extra. A big red statement necklace fits the bill perfectly — no other accessories required.

. . . . . . . .

So there you go. Five reasons to go out and get yourself a statement necklace.

That's a great necklace! I "refashioned" a statement necklace a while back with nail polish, and I'll admit I've been wearing the dang thing everywhere. I even justified it for a 10 mile walk once… hey, we were walking TO the zoo so I thought what the heck? I love the one you chose 🙂

So cute! I've actually been pondering statement necklaces…I have to admit I'm not a believer. YET. I think I might be one step closer now though!

  21. I seriously love every single on of these outfits, although I don't need any encouragement to get a statement necklace. I have plenty already (and one on the way to me in the mail). Anyway, point is, I give you an A+ on this styling project (and I am a tough grader)!!

  22. Awesome, Merrick! My favorite is the white outfit. I loooove the pop of red with stripes, and I think I'm just a sucker for white jeans right now.
