It’s a new year and I’m ready to clean up a lot of areas of our life – including food. Today I’m sharing some of my favorite healthy snacks for kids, all from Target.
A fun and easy way to upgrade your snacks
I can’t be the only one so over the junk food that seemed to double over Christmas break, right? I’m so ready to have more healthy snacks for my kids and myself on hand.
The biggest snacking time for all of us is during the hour between school pickups. I pick up the younger kids from school, and then we wait just over an hour until my older son is out of school. You wouldn’t believe the amount of snacks they can plow through in an hour…and usually all they want is sugary/junk snacks.
Here is my solution to cutting the junk snacks
So I raided the Target and found some great options from their Good & Gather brand, and then put them together in this fun and unexpected way so the snacks seem just as fun as the bag of cookies they normally choose.
I’ll show you how easy it is to put together, plus some ideas of what to put inside these little snack jars.
Here’s what you need for these snacks in a jar:
Open up the mason jar and place snacks in the jar. Then place snacks in the condiment container, take the flat part of the mason jar lid and place it upside down on the condiment cup. Flip them over together, place on top of the mason jar, then screw the remaining part of the lid on.
Here are some ideas for your snacks in a jar
- Yogurt and berries with granola on top
- Apples and peanut butter
- Pretzels and chocolate hummus
- Cucumbers or carrots and hummus
- Veggie straws and fruit
- Fruit snacks and kids protein bars
- Crackers and slices of meat and cheese
- Trail mix and coconut chips
- Watermelon (balled with a melon baller) and nuts
- Mini muffins and berries
You could literally do ANYTHING! It’s fun to be creative and surprise your kids too. I’m just keeping a handful of them in the fridge and then grabbing them as I head out the door for school pickup.
But they’d also be great if you’re taking your kids straight from school to practice, or on the weekends when you’re running around from game to game.
They’ll always come in handy in a pinch, and the air tight containers help the food stay good for a long time.
A few other ways I stay motivated to take care of myself
As we head into the new year, I’m sure you too have goals to be active, drink more water, or eat healthier. And there are lots of great ways to do that.
One of my biggest motivators is my Apple Watch. It tracks my activity, my sleep, sends me reminders, lets me set alarms to keep track of things throughout my day, and so much more.
Food prepping helps me a ton as well. I use my INSTANT POT to cook chicken or boil eggs or cook veggies for our family so they’re in the fridge ready to go for the week. And of course the snacks in a jar help a ton too with quick and easy options for the kids and me.
I’ve mentioned THIS BOOK before as well, and it’s a huge help in getting yourself on track without mentally exhausting yourself everyday.
Do yourself a favor and grab these mason jars and condiment cups, a few snacks, and get yourself and your kids on the right track for the new year!

I am having the hardest time trying to figure out how to get the condiment cup on the mason jar…I bought my supplies thru your links, so they should be the same items….any help you can give?? Thanks so much – this is a fabulous idea and I can’t wait to be able to use it
Hi!
Any insight as to why the jar lid will not fit with the condim cups? I bought the exact items you linked and made sure the siZing was the same (8 oz jar 2oz cups) but the lids will not tighten with the cup.
Thanks!
I used Her contact form and submitted questions about the jar lid!
Hi Ladies! I had the same issue with the lids. i discovered that if i hung the condiment cup right side up inside the jar and then put the jar lids on I could get it to work. not quite as cute and fun but at least i can still use the cups and jars i bought. hope that helps!
