I love having a few high-quality, warm and versatile shoes in my closet for each season. Here are my go-to favorite shoes for winter!

We’re not quite into winter weather in Dallas, but lots of you have winter weather and are asking for my favorite shoes for colder weather.

So here are some essential winter shoes from my closet that get tons of use during the colder months.

Favorite Shoes for Winter

1. Chelsea Boots

Over the Knee Boots

  • Over the knee boots are a great shoe option that gives you that legs-for-days look. I’ve actually owned a few pairs over the years and found that my black flat heel pair has been my most worn. I ended up selling or donating the other ones, but held on to these for all these years. You can wear them with skinny jeans or leggings or faux leather leggings.

Dressy black ankle boots

  • A pair of dressy ankle boots is a closet staple for me. I wear them with jeans or dress pants or skirts and dresses – they’re so versatile, and are a great alternative when you need to dress up but don’t want to wear heels. Again, mine are a few years old, but these ones are very similar!

Knee-high suede boots

  • Mine are many, many years old, so I can’t even remember where I got them, but THIS is a similar pair. They’re a great shoe option for winter with dresses or with skinny jeans. I prefer wearing them with dresses, and if it’s too cold to show some bare leg, toss on some sheer black tights or navy blue tights, or another dark rich color to keep your legs warm and add a pop. You could also wear leggings underneath and wear them with a midi dress so the leggings never show. If you’re going out in weather that’s wet, I’d recommend treating these boots first. I have a post about it RIGHT HERE!

Neutral sneakers

  • During the summer, I wear white sneakers constantly. But during the winter, my white sneakers sometimes feel too bright and stark for my winter outfits (you can still wear them — I showed some ways HERE), so a more neutral pair of sneakers is a great option for me to have. I have many pairs of sneakers that I like wearing in the winter, but these are a new pair that I’m loving. (Code MERRICK20 works for $20 off for new customers).

Black pumps

  •  Black pumps are a classic closet staple, and I wear mine all the time during the winter when I need a dressy close toed shoe. They’re super versatile, and the patent leather keeps them from getting damaged in wet conditions. You could do a brushed leather, but I think a patent leather feels more modern and chic. Pair them with jeans and a blouse, a sweater and jeans, or with a dress. Mine are Manolo Blahnik brand, but this pair gets great reviews and is a fraction of the price.

I love having a few high-quality, warm and versatile shoes in my closet for each season. Here are my go-to favorite shoes for winter!

We’re in full blown winter weather in St. Louis, and it’s COLD. These are my go-to winter shoes for dressing up or dressing more casually.

All of these are essential winter shoes from my closet that get tons of use during the colder months.

Favorite Shoes for Winter

1. Black Chelsea Boots

  • These have been my go-to cold weather shoes for the last three winters. This specific pair is out of stock in black (thankfully thousands of you grabbed them over the past few years), but if you find them in your size, get your normal size. They’re stiff at first, but they break in after a few wears. Since they’re sold out right now, there are a few similar options out there that are similar!

SIMILAR TRENCH COAT | SIMILAR STRIPED TEE (a favorite navy and white option HERE) | EVERLANE WASHED BLACK JEAN (wearing my normal size 26) | MADEWELL BASEBALL HAT | SIMILAR BLACK CHELSEA BOOTS | GUCCI BLACK CROSSBODY BAG (budget friendly option HERE) | SIMILAR TRIPLE HOOP EARRING

MADEWELL JEANS (wearing size 25, size down) | PUMIEY BODYSUIT (wearing size small) | SIMILAR SHEARLING LINED LACEUP BOOTS | SIMILAR CORDUROY PUFFER COAT (another similar HERE)

Tan coat with white jeans

3. Tan Chelsea Boots

  • These are the same boot as the black Chelsea boots I’ve had for years. I finally bought them in tan, and although they definitely get dirty more easily, and are suede instead of pebbled leather, I really love having a lighter color version to wear with those lighter colored outfits in the winter. These are true to size.

QUINCE SWEATER (wearing size small) | ARITZIA COAT (wearing size XS) |  SIMILAR WHITE STRAIGHT LEG JEANS | TAN CHELSEA BOOTS (limited sizes available, another option HERE) | TAN AMERICAN EAGLE BASEBALL HAT | GOLD TRIPLE HOOP EARRINGS

4. Comme de Garcon High Top Sneakers

  • I bought these shoes last year and honestly wasn’t sure if I’d keep them or not. I’m SHOCKED at how much wear they’ve gotten, and especially since I moved to a colder state. They’re great for keeping my ankles warm with a casual shoe, and they work with all styles of jeans and pants and leggings. You can see me style them with other jeans here. I’m wearing my true size!

MOUNTAIN MOVERZ SWEATSHIRT | ZELLA LEGGINGS | CONVERSE SNEAKERS (budget friendly version HERE) | ARITZIA COAT (on sale, budget friendly version HERE and HERE

5. Rich Brown Heeled Booties

  • I’ve had these boots for over a year, but they’re just now getting more and more year. They’re a nice skinny ankle boot, and the heel makes them really great for wearing to church or when I’m dressing up. They take a little time to break in, but they’re comfortable and true to size! Mine are a few seasons old so this exact color isn’t available, but this is the same boot.

NORDSTROM RELAXED FIT BLAZER | SIMILAR STRIPED TEE (a favorite navy and white option HERE) | EVERLANE WASHED BLACK JEAN | SIMILAR CHOCOLATE BROWN ANKLE BOOTS | SEZANE HANDBAG (budget friendly option HERE) | SIMILAR TRIPLE HOOP EARRINGS

If you’re in need of good shoes for winter, all of these are great choices.

I can vouch for the Miller 2 Chelsea boots from Nordstrom! 5 stars. I bought them a couple of weeks ago and love them! The shaft is the right height for most of my jeans. Ordered a half size up so I can wear them with my wool socks.
