I love having a few high-quality, warm and versatile shoes in my closet for each season. Here are my go-to favorite shoes for winter!

We’re not quite into winter weather in Dallas, but lots of you have winter weather and are asking for my favorite shoes for colder weather.

So here are some essential winter shoes from my closet that get tons of use during the colder months.

Favorite Shoes for Winter

1. Chelsea Boots

Over the Knee Boots

  • Over the knee boots are a great shoe option that gives you that legs-for-days look. I’ve actually owned a few pairs over the years and found that my black flat heel pair has been my most worn. I ended up selling or donating the other ones, but held on to these for all these years. You can wear them with skinny jeans or leggings or faux leather leggings.

Dressy black ankle boots

  • A pair of dressy ankle boots is a closet staple for me. I wear them with jeans or dress pants or skirts and dresses – they’re so versatile, and are a great alternative when you need to dress up but don’t want to wear heels. Again, mine are a few years old, but these ones are very similar!

Knee-high suede boots

  • Mine are many, many years old, so I can’t even remember where I got them, but THIS is a similar pair. They’re a great shoe option for winter with dresses or with skinny jeans. I prefer wearing them with dresses, and if it’s too cold to show some bare leg, toss on some sheer black tights or navy blue tights, or another dark rich color to keep your legs warm and add a pop. You could also wear leggings underneath and wear them with a midi dress so the leggings never show. If you’re going out in weather that’s wet, I’d recommend treating these boots first. I have a post about it RIGHT HERE!

Neutral sneakers

  • During the summer, I wear white sneakers constantly. But during the winter, my white sneakers sometimes feel too bright and stark for my winter outfits (you can still wear them — I showed some ways HERE), so a more neutral pair of sneakers is a great option for me to have. I have many pairs of sneakers that I like wearing in the winter, but these are a new pair that I’m loving. (Code MERRICK20 works for $20 off for new customers).

Black pumps

  •  Black pumps are a classic closet staple, and I wear mine all the time during the winter when I need a dressy close toed shoe. They’re super versatile, and the patent leather keeps them from getting damaged in wet conditions. You could do a brushed leather, but I think a patent leather feels more modern and chic. Pair them with jeans and a blouse, a sweater and jeans, or with a dress. Mine are Manolo Blahnik brand, but this pair gets great reviews and is a fraction of the price.

1. Black Chelsea Boots

  • These have been my go-to cold weather shoes for the last three winters. This specific pair is almost completely out of stock in black (thankfully thousands of you grabbed them over the past few years), but if you find them in stock, grab a pair – they run a little small, so I’d recommend getting a half size up. They’re stiff at first, but they break in after a few wears. Since they’re almost sold out right now, there are a few similar options out there that are similar!

4. Sorel high top sneaker boots

I’ve been wearing these a ton lately for walking to school, running errands in the winter, and more. They’re SO comfortable, and are like a great winter sneaker. They’re fleece lined, water proof, and keep my feet super warm and happy. They run a little small – I went a full size up, although some said that they’ll stretch out, but a size 9 has been great for me (normally I’m a size 8).

6. Sam Edelman Layla Sneakers

These are my favorite sneakers ever! They’re so comfy straight out of the box, and they are an easy shoe to slip on with jeans, leggings, or even nicer pants. I have heard that the black and white can bleed a little bit when they get wet (I’ve had mine for 6 months and haven’t had that issue, but the reviews mention it), so I don’t wear these on rainy days or in the snow, but they’re great for those cold winter days when it’s dry. Get your true size!

I’ve got a blog post with some styling ideas RIGHT HERE.

If you’re in need of good shoes for winter, all of these are great choices.

I can vouch for the Miller 2 Chelsea boots from Nordstrom! 5 stars. I bought them a couple of weeks ago and love them! The shaft is the right height for most of my jeans. Ordered a half size up so I can wear them with my wool socks.
