I love having a few high-quality, warm and versatile shoes in my closet for each season. Here are my go-to favorite shoes for winter!
We’re in full blown winter weather in St. Louis, and it’s COLD. These are my go-to winter shoes for dressing up or dressing more casually.
All of these are essential winter shoes from my closet that get tons of use during the colder months.
Favorite Shoes for Winter
1. Black Chelsea Boots
- These have been my go-to cold weather shoes for the last three winters. This specific pair is almost completely out of stock in black (thankfully thousands of you grabbed them over the past few years), but if you find them in stock, grab a pair – they run a little small, so I’d recommend getting a half size up. They’re stiff at first, but they break in after a few wears. Since they’re almost sold out right now, there are a few similar options out there that are similar!
- Thursday Chelsea Boots
- Blondo Chelsea Boots
- Nordstrom Chelsea Boots (these are the new version of the ones I have – they’re just a slightly taller heel and shaft, but identical besides that! They’re low in stock too, but if you find them in stock in your size, grab them).
WALMART SWEATER(gray sold out, similar option HERE) | TARGET VELVET PANTS (wearing size 2) | CHELSEA BOOTS
2. Lace Up Sherpa Boots
- I bought these a few years ago from DSW, but these ones are almost identical. They are cozy and cute with leggings or skinny jeans or wide leg jeans, and add a fun pop to any outfit. Plus the shearling tongue makes them nice and warm. I styled them a few other ways here!
SPANX FAUX LEATHER LEGGINGS (currently on sale, use code MERRICKXSPANX for an extra 20% off) | QUINCE CASHMERE SWEATER (size up one size!) | SIMILAR BROWN QUILTED VEST (another option here)| LACE UP SHERPA BOOTS
3. Tan Chelsea Boots
- These are the same boot as the black Chelsea boots I’ve had for years. I finally bought them in tan, and although they definitely get dirty more easily, and are suede instead of pebbled leather, I really love having a lighter color version to wear with those lighter colored outfits in the winter. These are true to size. They’re almost out of stock, but I found a similar pair HERE that gets great reviews!
QUINCE SWEATER (wearing size small) | ARITZIA COAT (wearing size XS) | SIMILAR WHITE STRAIGHT LEG JEANS | TAN CHELSEA BOOTS (limited sizes available, similar option HERE)| TAN AMERICAN EAGLE BASEBALL HAT | GOLD TRIPLE HOOP EARRINGS
4. Sorel high top sneaker boots
I’ve been wearing these a ton lately for walking to school, running errands in the winter, and more. They’re SO comfortable, and are like a great winter sneaker. They’re fleece lined, water proof, and keep my feet super warm and happy. They run a little small – I went a full size up, although some said that they’ll stretch out, but a size 9 has been great for me (normally I’m a size 8).
TARGET LONG PUFFER VEST (similar HERE or HERE) | TARGET ALL IN MOTION LEGGINGS | TARGET ALL IN MOTION HOODED PULLOVER TUNIC | SOREL SNEAKERS | NICKEL AND SUEDE BOW AND HEART EARRINGS
5. Black Heeled Booties
- These are my go-to shoe when it’s freezing but I need to dress up. My exact pair is Blondo brand from Nordstrom, but sadly they’re sold out. But this pair is almost identical!
SIMILAR BLACK BOOTS | RED NORDSTROM SWEATER COAT (almost sold out, similar option here) | KUT FROM THE KLOTH COATED JEANS (wearing size 0, they run big!) | SIMILAR WHITE LONG SLEEVE SCOOP NECK TEE | TRIPLE HOOP EARRINGS
6. Sam Edelman Layla Sneakers
These are my favorite sneakers ever! They’re so comfy straight out of the box, and they are an easy shoe to slip on with jeans, leggings, or even nicer pants. I have heard that the black and white can bleed a little bit when they get wet (I’ve had mine for 6 months and haven’t had that issue, but the reviews mention it), so I don’t wear these on rainy days or in the snow, but they’re great for those cold winter days when it’s dry. Get your true size!
I’ve got a blog post with some styling ideas RIGHT HERE.
AMAZON CARDIGAN | EVERLANE BASIC TEE | ZELLA LEGGINGS | PARIS BASEBALL HAT | AMAZON BOOT SOCKS | SAM EDELMAN SNEAKERS | SIMILAR PUFFER SHOULDER BAG
If you’re in need of good shoes for winter, all of these are great choices.

I can vouch for the Miller 2 Chelsea boots from Nordstrom! 5 stars. I bought them a couple of weeks ago and love them! The shaft is the right height for most of my jeans. Ordered a half size up so I can wear them with my wool socks.
