OUTFIT DETAILS: LEVI’S 700 SERIES JEANS VIA ZAPPOS  | |  WHITE TEE  | |  CHAMBRAY SHIRT | |  CONVERSE  | |  SIMILAR LEATHER JACKET  | |  SIMILAR HEELS

Over the last year or so as I’ve discovered my personal style, I’ve found myself drawn toward more and more basics. They’re the foundation of my wardrobe, and as much fun as dressing up can be, basics are practical for my lifestyle and work for all occasions. There’s also something so effortless about basics, and that’s always what I’m looking for in my style — never looking too “done up” or like I’m trying too hard. I just want to be me.

Jeans and t-shirts are two of my most worn basics. And paired together, they’re a great base outfit and can easily go from day to night. I picked up these new 700 Series Levi’s jeans from Zappos a few weeks ago, and although I’m typically drawn toward distressed jeans, I love that these ones aren’t distressed so they can transition a little more easily for any occasion. And I love that with Zappos I can order them and then with their fast, free shipping they can be at my doorstep as fast as the next day (but if they don’t fit, you can send it back for free with their 365 day return policy).

These jeans are currently taking me from errands in the morning with Fos while B is in school, to date nights in the evenings with Philip. During the day, throw a chambray (or gingham or plaid) shirt around your waist, slip on some converse, and add a casual bag. For night time, take the same basic jeans and tee and dress it up with black heels, a leather jacket, and dressier purse, and a statement necklace. Easiest (and most comfortable) day to night outfit you’ll ever wear!

My friends say I appear more approachable when I’m wearing jeans a basic top, which I can totally understand. There’s something about wearing a nice blouse to get groceries that does feel a bit silly – if I’m THAT dressed up a grocery store (that other people wear pajamas to), what do I wear when I go out? Well, I wear the same thing with a different shoe and more makeup, but ever since I started wearing basics to run errands in (with fun jewelry, of course!), I feel a bit more special when the occasion calls for my fancy blouse.

I love how you show the day and night versions of things – it really shows how versatile a basic white t-shirt can be. Also, could Foster be any cuter?!? I want to reach through the screen and pinch his cheeks! <3

I totally agree – jeans and a t-shirt are my favourite (and turns out my boyfriend’s favourite) outfit! Feels great 🙂 You are totally rocking the look with the leather jacket though, another one of my favourite staples.

Both of these looks are perfect! I just realized that I don’t actually own any plain white shirts… I need to get on that!

  6. Such a great look! The mommy, son converse is so cute. 😀 How do you keep yours so white? I’ve washed mine, but they just don’t look white.

Where did you get that awesome necklace? I love it. Both outfits are great. I have a similar one with gold, but I don’t love the quality, and I really like the black yours has. Thanks.

Thanks! It’s actually on sale. One last question. Do you feel like this necklace is worth that price? It retailed at $450, and is on sale for $125. I’ve never shopped this site before, so I’m not familiar with their quality. Thanks.

      • Merrick says:

It’s a really high quality necklace — super well made. If you think you’ll get a ton of use out of it for years to come, I think it’s definitely worth the price!

Thanks for your input. My husband asked what I want for our anniversary, so I sent him the link. Happy anniversary to me!! And him. He loves the edgy style I have, so he was more than happy to accommodate. I’ll try to act surprised when I open it up at dinner 🙂
