I really love to cook.
When Philip and I got engaged, we sort of made an unspoken agreement to eat dinner together every night. Since girls are usually the ones to cook, I was sort of put on the spot to start whipping out some delicious meals. I sat down to make a list of things I could cook and couldn’t come up with one! I frantically called my mom and asked what the heck she had made for dinner for the last 19 years of my life…
With her help and the help of “Cooking For Two” magazines, I went to work and started making dinner every night (In all fairness, Philip did make dinner about once a week). After we got married, I’d put on the Home and Garden channel while I cooked, and seeing those great chefs in cute kitchens, making fabulous dinners motivated me even more. A combination of all these things made me fall in love with cooking. I love chopping vegetables, I love setting a pretty table (thanks to my Mom), and I love having Philip come home to a house full of good smells. As a result, I have cooked dinner nearly every night of our marriage.
That being said, we had our trip to Yellowstone last week, so I didn’t cook dinner all weekend, and then with Philip’s parents being here all week, we had dinner with them at Grandpa White’s house one night, dinner at Philip’s aunt Barbara’s house another night, and dinner at Zupas with the family another night! I haven’t cooked in a week! And now the thought of me defrosting chicken for tonight, and spending over an hour getting everything ready seems like So. Much. Effort. Blah.
Moral of the story, don’t go on vacations? No. Just cook on a regular basis and imagine yourself as Rachel Ray in her little vintage kitchen. It’ll keep you motivated for years.
Now doesn’t that look FUN?!
I love to cook too. I haven’t cooked hardly at all this week, though, because we’ve been gone almost every single night. Crazy times.
Well, I didn’t get the “love to cook” gene! Once in awhile I’ll get motivated and think it’s kinda fun for a spurt, then back to “yuck, why does everyone think they have to eat EVERY night?” Neither did I get the “love to garden” gene. It’s summer and I’m unhappy that I have to take part of my day to pull weeds that will just grow back to spite me! I take my hat off to those of you who enjoy those two skills!
haha i love reading your blog, merrick! and i love the yellowstone pics and don’t you LOVE rachael ray!? actually i used to really hate her but i’ve been so addicted to her show lately. anyways, hopefully we’ll talk soon!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 🙂
I’m so impressed that you’ve cooked almost every day of your marriage! That’s awesome. Sometimes we take a break on the weekends; I guess I just run out of ideas by Friday. If you have any good recipies, let me know!
