Welcome to boot camp! Today we’re talking all about block-heeled ankle boots – from what pants to wear with them, how to style them, and where to wear them.
I think that block-heeled ankle boots are a closet essential – they’re great to dress up or down and can be worn with so many fall, winter and even spring outfits. Today, I’ll explain how to wear block-heeled booties for different occasions, what pants, skirts, and dresses to wear, what socks to pair them with and so much more. I’ll break down everything you ever wanted to know about these kinds of ankle boots!
A few great pairs of neutral block heel ankle boots:
My favorite pair is a pair I got from the Nordstrom sale about 5 years ago. They’re no longer available, sadly, but you guys see them show up all the time. I’ve never been able to find them in stores since. But THIS PAIR is a pair I picked up during the Nordstrom Sale this summer and I really love them. They have a nice slim ankle so they don’t give you blocky ankles, they have a really good neutral color, they’re comfortable, they’re not a too pointed or too round toe, and the slit on the side gives you an elongated leg look.
Here are a few other options
What socks I wear with block heel ankle boots
When your shoes have really low slits on the sides, a super low sock is best so it doesn’t show much (or at all). I honestly almost never wear socks with block heel ankle boots like this, but if you need socks, try MY FAVORITE NO SHOW SOCKS, or if you want something super low, TRY THESE ONES!
If your boots don’t have a low cut side, or you want a sock sticking out, my favorite everyday socks and boot socks are both linked in THIS POST.
Where to wear the boots
These boots are endlessly versatile for nicer occasions. Here are some places they work really well:
- the office
- date night
- church
- concerts
- girls nights
- baby and bridal showers
- traveling for nicer nights out when you want a comfy shoe
What kind of pants/jeans/lengths can you wear with block heel ankle boots
- Any! Cropped, full length, skinny jeans, dress pants, kick flare jeans…they all work! See below for some examples.
If you’re wearing full length jeans or pants:
- Choose pants that hit right above the ground. No more than 1-2″ above the ground when wearing block heel ankle boots. You can see two examples of me wearing full length pants with block heel ankle boots below!
Tips for wearing with skirts and dresses
- If you choose a pair that has a slim shaft and won’t make your ankles look bulky, you can wear them with any skirt or dress! I shared some examples of longer dress and skirt lengths, and shorter lengths, and you can see that it works with all of them!
