I’m sort of a creature of habit. I like to do the same things over and over because they’re planned and it saves me some thinking, and if I love it, then why make a change?

My lunches are like this. I find something I really like and eat it for lunch every single day for months. Every few months I’ll think of something new and eat that every day for the next few months. I’d been on a spinach salad with poppyseed dressing kick for a while, and although I loved it, it takes quite a long time to prepare in the evenings. So I set out to find something new to make for lunch. I finally decided upon a wrap. 1 tortilla, a few slices of meat, a few pieces of cheese, and some freshly cut lettuce. It sounded so fresh and delicious, I could hardly wait to open it up and eat it for today’s lunch! In fact, I was so excited that I pulled it out around 11:45, when I normally don’t eat until 1:00pm.

You can imagine my disappointment when the entire tortilla was soggy. I nearly gagged pulling it out of my bag and touching the water-logged wrap. I managed to salvage part of it, and eat the meat and cheese inside, but it certainly wasn’t filling or fresh or delicious, or any of the wonderful things I’d imagined. And now I have a lot of hours before I’m home and there is other food to eat.

I guess I’ll have to start thinking of something else to bring for lunch. What are you eating? I need some ideas…

I used to make wraps for lunch, just put the lettuce/meat/cheese/dressing in a tupperware, then wrap it on your desk. Much yummier.

Merrick, try taking the items in separate baggies or Gladware type containers and assembling the wrap or sandwich later. You can also take salad dressing in a small leakproof container. If you don’t have one, invest in an insulated lunch bag. You can use Blue Ice to keep your lunch chilled, but a water bottle that is 1/2 filled with water and frozen and then topped off with water, keeps your lunch cold and gives you water to drink.

I’m at home now, but carried lunches for over 25 years. It can be a real challenge to find new and interesting foods to carry along.

    Everyday:

    – dried pineapple
    – chocolate chip multi-grain bar
    – yogurt
    – peanut butter sandwich
    – half an apple, half a carrot
    – hummus
    – pretzels

    Delish.

At our house we go for ease and convenience rather than fanciness at lunchtime. That means our lunch usually consists of leftovers, Campbell’s soup, or – most commonly – sandwiches (usually either the uninspiring, plain old turkey and cheese or peanut butter). Oh – and we usually have sliced apples and carrots as sides to our “entree”. The other day I even gave in and let the kids have cold cereal for lunch; some days you’ve just got to find ways to cut corners.
I’m sure that this is probably not what you were looking for 🙂

  5. I eat the same things for as long as I can too. This is my current favorite:
    2 pieces wheat bread, toasted
4 pieces turkey bacon spread out on each slice of bread
enough slices of tomatoes to cover the whole sandwich!
    put it together…
    yum

Sorry, no tips here. I HATE lunch. Not much sounds good at that time of the day and I'm usually too lazy to make something too involved. I'm lucky my kids get fed – it's a good thing they like PB&J sandwiches…

Yeah, good call Ashley- put the tortila in a ziploc and keep the lettuce and meat and cheese and all the ‘moist’ stuff seperate and put together at teh last minute- viola!

I’m all about leftovers at lunch time (or breakfast or dinner…I admit, I like leftovers!) again, another post that didn’t help! BTY, enjoyed hearing all about your art school, I’m so excited for you!

I make my wraps the night before, but I spread laughing cow cheese, then meat and then spinach leaves. Hasn’t been soggy yet.
