a few of my favorite pictures of Fos over the last two years

Yesterday my little nugget baby turned two. In some ways I feel like he’s been in our family forever, and in other ways I feel like those two years raced by and it was just a few weeks ago that he was born and we were moving to California! He is the most special, sweet, tender hearted baby, is the biggest mama’s boy, and adds so much to our family. I don’t know how I ever lived without him.

He talks non-stop and parrots everything and anything that anyone says, loves motorcycles and fire trucks the most, can recognize and name all the capital letters and many of the lower case letters, can count to 14 (and then starts skipping numbers), loves to be outside, loves to sing, is a champion sleeper (and sleeps in til at least 9 every day), is incredibly polite (he always says “yes, please” and “no, please”) and wants to do everything that his older brother does.  He also really loves pancakes.

We spent the weekend celebrating with a family trip to Disneyland, a trunk or treat church activity, and an Olaf cake and balloons on his actual birthday (you can see more about the weekend over on my instagram!) It was the funnest weekend. And he spent a lot of it singing Happy Birthday to himself 🙂

Happy birthday, sweet boy!

Tomorrow we head off to Disneyland to celebrate Peanut’s 2nd birthday (which is actually on the 12th), but before we left, I wanted to have some sort of little party with his friends. It worked out perfectly that we have Mommy School on Monday mornings, so we turned this week into a birthday celebration. I asked Peanut if he had any suggestions on what to do for his birthday party, and he requested a Fire Engine party.

Since there isn’t a lot of stuff I could pull off with that kind of theme, I sort of went with a red theme, and threw in a few dollar store firemen hats so Peanut was happy.

I put together this little invitation in Photoshop, and sent it to everyone via email (since we were doing this all pretty last minute).

Since mommy school is close to lunch time, I made lunch for everyone.

For the adults, I made pasta salad, spinach salad with poppyseed dressing, fruit, toddler muffins (made by Kayla), vanilla cupcakes with red vanilla icing (Peanut’s request), focaccia bread, and these amazing cookies.

I made each child a little lunch box with a peanut butter and honey sandwich, chips, and grapes, and then used this tutorial to made mason jar sippy cups (which were my favorite part). The boxes were from Michaels (at 50% off).

Per usual, I did my go-to party decorations — scrapbook paper flags sewn together on the sewing machine. (paper from Michaels).

Peanut always has fun when his friends come over, but he was over the moon about a fire engine birthday party, and was jumping up and down all morning waiting for the big moment. I only wish I’d gotten a picture with him and all his friends — everything looks so calm in these photos, but there were about 10 toddlers running around wreaking havoc and having a blast.

  4. preethi says:

Um, this looks ridiculously adorable (and delicious). I especially love those mason sippies, and need to make those cookies asap. Why is it that we live on the other side of the country and our boys can't be friends?

  5. Terri S says:

The party decorations turned out great! And you have a beautiful family. Corduroy is fave here, as well. 🙂

  6. Ugh! The calendar keeps reminding me to get a gift in the mail. Last week kind of threw me off my groove. Hopefully there will be a package waiting when you get back from vacation. Happy birthday sweet boy!

  7. Erica says:

Darling! That turned out so cute. I love the mason jars

  10. Britty says:

What an adorable party! I laughed out loud @ the "red theme with some firemen thrown in", sneaky compromise is how we got through my twin nephews' childhood haha!

And now to COMPLETELY change the subject: Your decor is fabulous. I've always wanted to make a sewn paper garland but my machine always freaks out–do you set yours on any particular stitch length or whatever before you do it? And is it paper or cardstock?

  11. Looks like you pulled it together very nicely. And I have to say, I am so jealous about Disneyland! I usually go about twice a year and haven't gone since August. I am having withdrawals. Have a blast!

  12. Jenni says:

What a great party! The whole spread looks perfect. Love the idea of making each kid their own box lunch…so fun!
