This round of Sisters Share It All was Landen’s pick, and she chose for us to share our greatest accomplishment of the year.
Um…I’m pretty sure you can guess what mine was…
Spending nine months out of the year growing a human being trumps all other accomplishments, I think. But since you’ve heard plenty about him the last few weeks, I’ll share my second greatest personal accomplishment of the year, which is that I kicked my bad nail biting habit.
I clearly remember being very young (four or five) and having my parents threaten to paint my nails with that pepper flavored nail polish — anything to get me to stop biting my nails. Since then, I’ve tried so many times to kick the habit, and although I can will myself to stop for a period of time (like to grow them out for my wedding), I’ve never been able to overcome the bad habit completely.
Then I re-discovered shellac, or gel nails, this summer, and after getting it done one time and going a full three weeks without biting my nails at all, Philip piped up and requested I get my nails done regularly if it would help me not bite them (it drives him nuts). After three or four months of regular manicures, I think it’s safe to say the habit is broken. Hallelujah!
Since manicures every few weeks gets expensive, I stopped that a few months ago and have since been good about painting my nails regularly, keeping them short enough that they’re not a temptation, and just willing myself to not bite them. So far so good. Although it’s far below the accomplishment of birthing a human, I consider this a major accomplishment for myself.

they have at home shellac kits that might make a good christmas present!
I'm so with you on this one!! I also stopped my nail biting habit this year – properly, after many short term attempts, and it's so much harder than anyone thinks, and a great achievement. My trick was changing jobs and therefore reducing a huge level of stress from my life. Well done you!
Good job! I love painting nails and nail polish so much, I blog about them. haha
I have that nail polish and LOVE it! congrats on kicking the habit!
Awesome job on both the little human and the nails. 🙂 I have been using Revlon's version of the gel polish for a while and it easily lasts a week (although that may just be because I am wearing six layers of polish!) 🙂 It is really reasonably priced too.
And. . .now I need gold nail polish.
Way to go! It's awesome that your husband supported you kicking the habit!
What a beautiful baby! And way to kick a tough habit!!

I pick at my nails too. I have to keep them short to stop me from doing it. Glad you are overcoming your bad habit 🙂

I have bitten my nails since I was five and have tried EVERYTHING so I'm interested in trying the shellac manicure and sheer will power technique, did you grow them out long enough then just get the shellac polish or did you get fake nails with shellac put on?
This is really gross, but we learned in nursing school that lots lovely stuff hides under those nails…… Bacteria, fungus, and the ever lovely feces…… Think about that as you want to take a bite. Kicked my bad habit quickly! Good luck! Baby Buck is precious. Congrats!
Congratulations on breaking your nail-biting habit! I need to stop popping my fingers, but I'm not sure I'm going to conquer that. And your baby is absolutely adorable.
