I think everyone has at least one or two items in their closet that they just have a hard time wearing for one reason or another. Today we’re pulling those items out of our closets and in true Tim Gunn fashion, we’re “Making It Work.” In other words, we’re forcing ourselves to style it in two ways so the difficult piece works.
For me, my hard-to-wear piece is this sweater from chicnova. It’s comfy and cute, but the fact that it’s completely see through (since it’s crocheted) and has kind of weird batwing half sleeves makes it a tough one for me.
My first solution was to wear it underneath a jacket. The sleeves are the main thing I struggle with, so layering a jacket over it makes those a non-issue. To help the outfit be a good transitional outfit from summer to fall, I paired it with white jeans, a light denim jacket, and light colored booties. I actually really like how this outfit came out.

jacket: gap (similar here (on sale!) and here // sweater: c/o chicnova // jeans: h&m (similar) // booties: target // bag: c/o jo totes // watch: burberry // necklace: c/o inpink
My second solution was to pair it over a dress, which solved the see-through issue. I love that you get a hint of stripes through the sweater, but it’s not too distracting. I think it works.

sweater: c/o chicnova // dress: made by me (tutorial here) // necklace: c/o sira and mara // sandals: target // bag: c/o persunmall // watch: burberry // sunglasses: target (similar)

RAIDING MY SISTER’S CLOSET: MAKING IT WORK

Cute sweater. I am not a fan of dolman sleeve tops and try to avoid buying them because I feel like they add so much bulk.

  8. What a helpful post! I think we all have those "difficult pieces" that we bought on a whim or that were given as a gift… I love the creativity of finding a way to bring it into the daily outfit rotation instead of just letting it sit in the back of the closet.
