Merrick At Home: Master Bedroom and Bath

Merrick's Art Ikea Square Frames

We’ve had such a blast working on our new home over the last few months. When we moved, we ended up selling a lot of our old furniture because our new home has a totally different layout and, for the most part, larger rooms. But for our master bedroom, we decided to keep the bed, and just freshen it up with some new bedding, side tables, and accessories.

In our old home, the wall that the bed was against was asymmetrical with one window to the left of the bed (you can see it here), so there wasn’t room for two bed side tables. We made do with a table on Philip’s side and some little floating shelves on my side (which were never very sturdy…my fault…). It made for very little storage, so we’re grateful for a larger and symmetrical master bedroom in our new home that allows for large side tables.

With the new side tables we purchased, the room has a totally different feel than our old room, and I love that the light wood gives the space some warmth. We also added a shag rug for some depth, some fresh new bed linens and shams, and a throw at the end of the bed.

Adding new linens and a new rug are easy ways to update a space without much effort, and I love how they’ve completely transformed our room. We chose these Sorrento Embroidered sheets from Kassatex, with the corresponding duvet and shams. They’re really great quality so they’re light and breathable and have that crisp feel while still being soft and comfortable. I always get questions about our white bedding with little kids, and I prefer it because it’s easy to bleach out any stains.

And then we got this shag rug from RugsUSA that I love and is so comfortable, but does shed a little bit. We haven’t vacuumed it since we laid it out, so I’m hoping that helps.

I’ve shared bits of our master bathroom — it’s definitely one of my favorite spots in the house. When we chose the finishes for this bathroom, we went with a grey color palette with tile and countertops that had some visual interest. So we kept the rest of the room simple to let those stand out. We chose white towels and rugs (again, so they can easily be bleached when they get dirty), and simple grey countertop accessories — I love the subtle texture on these.

Our tile has a matte finish, which makes it feel less cold in the morning, but I still love having cozy rugs to stand on when we stand at the sink in the morning. These rugs from Kassatex are so plush and soft — I could stand here all day. And their towels are the same — they absorb so well, they’re so soft, they wash really well, and they’re nice and big.

I love white bedding as well, and I love how you can just throw it all in the wash with bleach and it comes out super clean and disinfected. Makes so much sense! Quick question, where are your bed pillows from?

I love the wood floors in your house, just the right shade of dark, do you know what color/where they are from?? Thanks!

They’re actually wood tile and we bought them through our builder so I don’t have a source. But I know they’re available a lot of places. But I love that they’re durable and they can go in kitchens and bathrooms without warping concerns!
