Since moving to California, one of our favorite things to do is staycation. There are so many gorgeous cities within an hour or two of us, so we’ve made it a goal to get around to as many of them as we can. We still love traveling out of the state, but when you don’t have to buy a plane ticket, and you can get home in less than an hour, we’ve found that staycations with kids are the way to go.
The Pacific Edge Hotel invited us to stay for the weekend, and since staycationing in Laguna Beach has been on our list since we moved here, we jumped at the opportunity. It’s only about 30 minutes down the coast from us, so it was a perfect quick little getaway, and a chance to check out their newly renovated hotel rooms.
I made a quick little video of our time there, and shared a few photos below. I’m still trying to figure out how to film, photograph, try to be in at least a picture or two, and try to enjoy my vacation and family all at the same time while we’re on these trips…haven’t mastered it yet. Pretty sure I need a permanent vacation photographer to just follow us around and document our travels!
Our hotel room was a cute little suite with one room overlooking the gorgeous ocean, and the other a smaller connecting room with two beds for the boys. Falling asleep to the sound of the ocean is one of our favorite things, and even with the balcony door closed we could hear the waves softly crashing all night. Heavenly.
On our first afternoon there, we walked around darling downtown Laguna, which is only a block from the hotel, and it literally looks like you just stepped into Snow White and the Seven Dwarves. The buildings, flowers, signage, shops…everything is just so quaint and perfect. Then we crossed over PCH and walked along the beachside path until we all were freezing and it was time for dinner.
We ate at
The Driftwood Kitchen, one of the on-site restaurants, and it was even better than we expected. The butternut squash gnocchi was for sure the highlight, but the braeburn apple brioche for dessert was a close second. We would go back there for date night in a heartbeat.
The rest of the weekend was quick but fun with a night dip in the hot tub (for the boys — not me, obviously), and a morning walk along the beach to get pastries at a nearby bakery for breakfast.
The Pacific Edge has an El Nino special going on right now, so if you’re local or planning a visit soon, check it out and
use code ELNINO to book!
Beautiful photo diary!! Laguna Beach seems to have been a perfect getaway spot for you!

That looks like a really fun place to explore! And I must be clueless but why did you not get in the hot tub? It’s supposed to be obvious but I must admit I really have no clue. :-/
Oh, just pregnant women aren’t allowed in hot tubs 🙂
Love the photos and the video. 🙂 Your boys are so precious! They’re growing up fast.
