Drape front cardigans are super popular right now, and with all the different styles and colors available, I can’t help but want to add a few to my closet. But the truth is they’re bulky and kind of hard to style without looking…well, bulky.
But just because a trend can be tricky to wear doesn’t mean you have to be afraid of it. You just have to learn how to style it so it’s flattering!
Try these tips when styling your drape front cardigans:

1. Keep it skinny on bottom. Since you have so much fabric on top, it’s important that you don’t add more bulk on bottom. So stick with skinny jeans or leggings.

2. Wear darker shades on bottom. Although wearing black doesn’t always make you look skinnier, in this case it will. Lighter colored pants will draw attention to your legs and make them look wider too, so your whole body will look bulkier. Keep it proportional.

3. Add some height. When you’re wearing something that might make you look wider on top, extra height helps keep you looking taller and thinner. I threw on a pair of heeled ankle booties that matched the dark color of my jeans to help create a long, lean line all the way down to my toes.

4. Layer with lightweight pieces. If your shirt and your cardigan are both thick and bulky, it will add extra bulk, so keep your undershirt lightweight.

There are so many gorgeous drape front cardigans out there right now, so I rounded up a few of my favorites. I don’t know how you’ll ever choose between this diamond patterned one and this black and white fringe one! Click the images in the widget below to shop all my favorites!
