The holidays are right around the corner, so it’s time to start working on those holiday lists! Are you ready to start shopping and projecting? Today I’m super excited to share this fun project I did with Jo-Ann Fabric and Crafts that is a perfect gift for your best friend, your sister, your mom, or even your stylish grandma! It’s a quick and easy project that requires no skill and comes together super fast, but turns out so glamorous and unique. You must make a pair!

Materials:

1 pair of light colored shoes (I found mine for cheap at Nordstrom Rack, but there are good alternatives here or here)
silver glitter
mod podge
sponge brush

Step 1. Use the sponge brush to completely cover the shoe. Tip: It’s easier to do this in sections.

Step 2. Pour glitter over the mod podged section, covering it completely. Shake off the excess. Tip: pour your glitter over a paper plate so you can easily pour it back into the glitter bottle and re-use]
Once your entire shoe is covered in glitter, let it dry for 24 hours.
Step 3. Once it’s completely dry, use the sponge brush to carefully cover the entire shoe with another layer of mod podge. To avoid the glitter brushing off when applying this top layer, use a blotting motion, rather than a brushing or sweeping motion.

Let them dry for another 24 hours before wearing.

Now wrap them up and then gift them to someone glamorous in your life!

  1. Haha! I love it! Do they fall off after 1 night, I wonder?

That’s what I want to know! So cute, but I really don’t want my closet covered in glitter. Does it brush off easily?

      • Merrick says:

The glitter is securely on there — I’ve worn mine several times and the glitter hasn’t moved at all! The top layer of mod podge keeps the glitter firmly in place. But you can always do a second coat of mod podge if you’re worried about it 🙂

This is a brilliant DIY! You could totally even do this for a Dorthy Halloween costume some day!

These are gorgeous! These shoes have the holidays written all over them!

This looks like a way better method than the one I tried before. It’s been a couple years but I think the other tutorial had you mix the glitter and glue, then sort of paint it on? I can’t remember exactly…anyway after a day of wear the glitter was already falling off.

I am thinking I want to do this to some sneakers. Do you think this method will work on the canvas material?
