This week for Whip It Up, the theme was old family recipes. The first one that popped into my head was my Grandma’s rice pudding. Well the week went by and I never got around to it, and then Philip and I headed off to Las Vegas for the weekend. Now we’re here and I had to come up with something to make for this week. This morning when I got up, Landen was making granola, and since homemade granola was one of our favorite things to make as little girls I figured this counted as a family recipe. This, however, was a slightly different recipe, so it wasn’t one that I had made before.
Landen made a big batch,and since there wasn’t very much sauce to make delicious clumps, I made my own little batch with EXTRA sauce. Because of the large amounts of sauce, it took longer than expected to cook. Every time I checked, it was still too soft. Then I went upstairs and forgot about it…..
I threw it away before I took any pictures of it, but I was sitting and breakfast and suddenly turned to Landen. “Did you take the granola out??!” She quickly reminded me it was MY recipe that I was making, so NOT. HER. RESPONSIBILITY.
The remains sort of looked like a little pile of coal. Delicious.
But her batch turned out great, and I will definitely make it again. Maybe you can try it out, and be smarter than I am — stay in the kitchen while you cook.
Here’s the recipe:
1 stick butter
1/2 cup honey
2-3 cups uncooked oats
1/2 cup unflavored sunflower seeds
1 Tbsp cinnamon
Melt the butter and stir in the honey until mixed. Mix in other ingredients and cook at 350 for 20-25 minutes….not 1 hour.
Add more oats if necessary.

Ooh, I hate it when that happens and it is so clear that there is no one to blame but the cook. Bah! At least you had Landen’s granola to fall back on.
I love granola! I’ll have to try this sometime. The recipe sounds like something even a non-cook like me can handle 🙂
