Denim Jackets

My latest obsession has been floral prints. I have a few pretty floral skirts that I’ve owned for a few years, and I’ve recently added a few floral dresses to my closet (here and here).  I also have two more floral print dresses in the works (tutorial for one coming next week!). So basically it’s just been a big floral explosion over here lately.

And for me, the perfect pairing with all these florals is denim, especially during the cool months of spring. I had a denim jacket in high school that I wore to death, and now I think it’s time to add one to my closet after all these years of going without. I’ve decided that I like a classic cut and style (no cropped jackets or added rhinestones or studs for me), but my biggest challenge is deciding on which wash I like the best and will be the most versatile.
I’ve hunted around and found a few options at Gap, Loft, Old Navy, American Eagle, and Garage. Here are a few that I’m currently considering from these stores — all the styles are pretty similar, but the washes vary from very dark to very light.
Help me out here…which one would you choose??

I'm on the hunt for a denim jacket too… I had a perfect one that got lost when I moved 🙁 I like 1 and 3- the washes look like a good balance between light and dark!

  2. vero252 says:

Hi, I like the number 3 and the number 4.
    Good luck!!

  3. Lizzy says:

I would say 4 too. Washed out denim looks so fab with floral skirts..

  4. My favourites are 2 and 1, but I'm terrible at figuring out what to do with mine so possibly ignore my advice 😉

  5. I'd go with Loft. I noticed on the website they have it in a darker wash too! And they call it cropped but it doesn't look that cropped to me.

  6. Kimberly says:

I like 2 and 4. I'm like lighter washed out denim jackets the best. Good luck!

  7. Jennifer says:

I would go with something in between a light and dark wash so that you can pair it with light AND dark florals! I'd say #1!

  8. larissa says:

I like 2&4!! I'm loving the denim jacket with dresses and skirts! It makes it feel a little more casual but so pretty!!

  9. I'd go American Eagle. I love the fit of anything denim they have- they always get it right. I love my lighter wash worn-in denim jacket.

  10. Elise says:

I LOVE denim jackets and am so sad I don't fit in mine after having my daughter (I think a week before little Buck arrived, CONGRATS!). I would definitely choose #3. I love that it's a compromise between light and dark and it looks like it has some stretch which will come in handy while holding your little ones!

  11. I like #3 but option 4 is a close second

  12. I think #3 is my favorite. 4 and 5 are good options too.

  13. If it wasn't for the price tag, I'd say #1. It's definitely the most versatile, because I think the really light wash ones can look a bit silly sometimes. My denim jacket is almost that same shade.

  14. Laura says:

I like 3 and 5. Let us know what you go for.

  15. Bri Marie says:

    I really really love #3!!

  16. I bought an Old Navy on sale for $15 and a white denim JCrew on clearance for $17 ages ago that I have worn to death, they are my spring/summer/fall staples and never ever go out of style!

  17. Beth Maybee says:

I think the key is contrast. If the floral prints are light, I'g go with a darker wash. A darker one would also go well with light bottoms like mint skinnies. However lighter washes usually look better with black outfits and jeans on bottom.

  18. I am also in the search of a demin jacket, so thank you for posting this. I would pick no 3. I like them darker, anyway, it depends what you are wearing.. good luck

  19. Jules says:

3! It may be my experience with the 80s talking, but I just don't think denim looks good any lighter than that 🙂

  20. Erin says:

#3 – it seems like it would be well rounded and go with most colors.

  21. Kristina says:

I think #3 would be the most versatile, but I like #5 the best.

  22. Lindsay says:

#3 is cute and very versatile.

  23. I have the one from old navy. I like it because it's an inch or so longer than a lot of the styles out today. And, I think the dark wash compliments a lot of florals really well as well as many of the lighter colored pants I like to pair it with.

  24. De España says:

I'm cheap, so I would choose the Old Navy one. But I tried on a jacket from them and it was a lot shorter than it looks in that picture… I'm not sure if it was the same jacket. You should look at H&M. I have a cute one from there and I think it was only around $30.

  25. Marta Sadana says:

I'm a huge fan of 5. The dark denim will really make the floral patterns pop I think.

  26. Kristin says:

I would go with a medium wash like number 1 or 3. I have a dark wash denim jacket and I often find myself looking for lighter wash. I wish I just had one in the middle!

  27. Tracy says:

I think a dark denim is the most versatile and will get the most use.

  28. 3 is my top pick… i have a dark and a light wash and i wear the dark the most… i feel like the dark wash adds a bit more versatility it can be dressed up or dressed down much easier where i feel the lighter washes look more casual no matter what you wear t hem with

  29. Cassandra says:

I have the medium wash jacket from American Eagle and LOVE it. I wear it at least once a week. It is very versatile and goes well with many things!

  30. kateprs says:

I like #1. I was on the hunt for a denim jacket for what seemed to be an eternity but finally found a great one at Target (they have more selection online). I settled for a medium wash, so that's why I would rule out #2 and #5. #4 could be cute if you're going for a retro vibe. Good luck!

  31. The Angles says:

The denim jackets are starting to grow on me. I like 3 or 4. Good luck choosing!

  32. Mercedes says:

#4 is my favorite, but I would get #3 too 🙂 Good luck! Those all look great, it's a hard choice to make

  33. They are all cute but I really like #4.

  34. Yolennie says:

Denim and floral make the best pair <3

  35. Alix says:

I think #3 or #4. They look more fitted for a petite frame and I like the washes.

  36. Agnes Mayer says:

My favorites are #1 and # 5. I love my jean jacket/ Don’t forget to link up tomorrow. Show me your favorite spring trend. HOpe you can join. I’m also doing a giveaway for a $300 gift card to gap/old navy/banana republic. Come by and enter.

  37. Number 3 number 3! I have just bought one like this and the colour is really versatile compared to some of those really pale or really dark washes.

  38. I am not a big fan of the lighter wash denim for some reason. Can't put my finger on it but it looks weird to me and I can't seem to convince myself to like it. I like 3 & 5 best, 5 is a bit dark but could be dressed up more and 3 just seems like the idea fit, color and style all in one. Would match so much!

  39. Lindsay says:

I'd go with one or three. I think the medium wash looks more dressy and is just more versatile. But they're all really cute. It's hard to decide!

  40. Alyssa says:

Number 5! I have one that dark and I love it because it can go with something pretty dressy but still be super casual.

  41. Landen says:

I like #3. I think it has the most versatile wash. Not too dark to wear with black, but not too light to be really casual. The fit of #5 is cute too, thought. I like those pockets on the front!

  42. Abigail says:

I love numbers 3 & 5! I've always been a dark-denim gal. Have you picked one out yet?

  43. Brynn says:

I love number 3! Perfect wash, classic cut. I just bought a denim jacket that looks a lot like that one, actually, and have found it to be WAY more versatile than I ever expected!

  44. Definitely #5! The dark denim looks like a nice cut and will match most colors really well.
