Philip and I are both major travel lovers, but when we moved to California we chose to forgo a lot of our travel so we could live super close to the beach. The good news is that Southern California has so much to offer within driving distance, so we’re making a big effort to take advantage of all these fun places with little staycations — we still get to go places, but we save a lot on plane tickets!

So last weekend Philip took Friday off, we woke up early Friday morning, packed the kids up in the car and drove down to San Diego for the weekend. We spent all day Friday at the zoo, then played in the pool and hung out at our condo on Saturday, went to church on Sunday morning and then drove home. It was a perfect little getaway.

I gave him his own map as soon as we got in the park and it took nearly 10 minutes for him to put it down and look at the real animals!
he loved just sitting here watching the jaguar pacing in his cage
riding the sky tram (and a shot of those gappy teeth!)
his “perfect leaf” that he carried around for the rest of the day
“did you see that giant orangutan??”
 he was a fan 🙂
the sign of a good day
back at the condo, playing on the balcony
I’m pretty sure this is only the beginning…
Happy Thursday!

  1. Such cute pictures. I love the zoo and we have one right near our house so I can't wait to have a family pass once our lil guy is big enough.

Being totally honest here – I read your blog mostly to look at pics of your baby boy, he's so freakin cute I can't believe he's real! Seriously, is he real??!! Lol. Cutest baby I've ever seen.

  3. I can't wait for Clara to be old enough to appreciate the zoo!!

  4. Boys have a need to wrestle with each other 😉

  5. Love the sleeping pictures! 🙂 Seems like just yesterday we were there together!

What stroller do you have? It looked like a double and I am looking for recommendations for a double that would fit and older and a younger child. Would you recommend it?

    • It's a baby jogger city select and we love it. It's pricey, but I love that it can either be a single or a double (and you can even buy a stand that hooks on for a third older child), the chairs can face backward, forward, or face each other, the basket underneath is big, and the wheels are sturdy, big, and move easily so you can run with it! Definitely recommend it!

That is what I was thinking it was. I have heard rave reviews about them, but wasn't sure it was worth the money. I think this is the direction we will end up going…

Great pictures! Where is your white tshirt from? Do you have to wear a cami or anything underneath it? I've been looking for a longer one!

Fun pictures! We live in OC as well and have annual passes to the San Diego Zoo and go a few times a year. It such a great place for the kiddos.

  9. First of all, napping pictures! HAHAHA LOOOOOOVE. As well as Buck with his little monkey butt and the boys wrestling.

Secondly, ahhhh I love the zoo! You showed pictures of all my favorite exhibits! On my bucket list is to see the lion pee on a kid. I know, it's jacked up, but two of my friends have seen it and that "Spray Zone 7-10 feet" sign makes you curious. muahaha
