Crop tops are huge for this season, and although admittedly I think some people can totally rock them, I’m not personally interested in showing off my midriff. But since I’m always up for a styling challenge, I wanted to see if I could style a crop top in a way that fit my style and my figure (and still without showing my midriff).
I found that styling it with a high waisted skirt was the most versatile and flattering, and this gorgeous embroidered midi skirt from Nordstrom was up for the job. I mean, any skirt that has pockets is instantly given the job, regardless. A simple black crop top with a bit of pretty detailing on the sleeves and up the back made for a nice pairing (although this crop top is slightly longer than some others that I’ve seen).
First, try it just as is. A high waisted skirt and a regular crop top create a unique silhouette. You have to be careful that the crop top is short enough so the tiniest part of your waist is still semi visible — otherwise the look can make you look blocky.
Second, try it half tucked. To add some definition to the waist, a little half tuck is the perfect solution. I love it like this, and you can see the waistband, still tell you’re wearing a crop top, and show off your hourglass figure all at once!
And finally, try it tucked in all the way. This might not work as well with shorter crop tops, but you can tuck it into your skirt and get the appearance of a full shirt tucked but without the bulk.
