As we head out of warmer weather and into cooler weather, here are three easy ways to transition a dress from summer to fall. I’m sharing ideas with shorter, midi, and longer dresses.
Dresses are the perfect piece to wear in this awkward time between summer and fall. They are breezy enough to keep you cool when it’s still hot out, but colors and patterns of the dress can have you feeling like it’s fall. Here are some of my favorite summer-to-fall dresses, and how to wear them now AND later.
Summer to Fall Dresses
1. How to transition a shorter dress from summer to fall:
This denim dress is one of my favorites right now. It’s a thicker denim, but so fun to wear with sandals and sneakers in the warmer weather. But with the cap sleeve arm and the thicker denim, you can layer a long sleeve tee underneath instead of a jacket over the top, and it’s a great way to wear it in the fall!
You can absolutely still wear a jacket with it, but the long sleeve tee is great idea and a little unexpected. I paired it with socks and ankle boots, and I think it’s so cute both ways.

3. How to wear a maxi dress from summer to fall
Maxi dresses sometimes feel a little harder to take from summer to fall, but this dress from Anthropologie is a great option. The collar at the neckline and the deep blue and green colors make it perfect for fall, but the lighter weight cotton still makes it feel summery.
I paired it with some knee high riding boots and a blazer for fall, and I love how that outfit came together. It feels chic and elevated without feeling over the top or bulky.
