I think something that most people struggle with is dressing for the holidays. Of course it’s fun to look festive, but no one wants to look like Uncle Sam or a Christmas Tree at the holiday party or BBQ. So today we’re each sharing two Fourth of July friendly outfits that won’t leave you looking like an American flag, but will still show your holiday spirit.

Here are two easy tips to help you put together an appropriately festive outfit:
1. Choose slightly different versions of the standard holiday colors. Instead of Red, White, and Blue, I chose Peach, Cream, and Blue (the necklace is photographing quite a bit darker than it really is). It looks festive without screaming “Happy Fourth of July!”
dress: made by me (tutorial here) // wedges: old navy (in stores only) // necklace: c/o that’s mine

2. If there are three holiday colors (like red, white, and blue) go for only two of them. Here I went for just red and white. It keeps your outfit simple and pretty, and not overly patriotic.

top: c/o wallis // jeans: h&m  (similar) // sandals: target (similar) // watch: michael kors // bracelet: target (similar)

What are you wearing for the fourth this year??

Red, white and blue is actually one of my favorite color combinations. I love the blue skirt and stripped top look. The necklace is a great splash of red!

I love the slightly different versions of colors idea. I've done that before but never on purpose- ha it's always been from a lack of having the right color but now that I think about it more it really is a perfect way to be festive without being too frilly about it. So great tips, thanks! 🙂
