One of my very favorite spots in our house is my office. Our house is very long and thin beach style home, so although the width of the house is only as wide as our bedroom, the length is crazy long. As you go up the stairs to the second floor, the end of the stair case connects to an 80 foot long hallway (we call it the bowling alley). At the other end of the long hallway is another staircase that leads up to a small third story room — that’s my office!
Although it’s a fairly small room, one of the walls is open and has a balcony ledge that overlooks a family room below so it feels very open and light. It also has a sliding glass door that opens up onto a small balcony so I get lots of natural light and the breeze off of the ocean. It’s a perfect place for an office and I absolutely love getting up here to work.
Katie from A Girl Named Katie send me this darling handmade laptop case. It’s super well made, and is so soft and plush so my laptop is adequately protected, and I love that it has the shoulder strap so I can easily carry it with me when I’m traveling (so important for me). Plus, stripes! I love that when I’m not using it I can just prop it behind my laptop and add a little pop of pattern — it makes my office feel complete! Check out the rest of Katie’s handmade bags here.
Although my fabric is kind of jam-packed in these drawers, it’s working for now and it’s nice to have all my fabric in one place and easily viewable.
That mirror is the most helpful thing in my sewing room — trying on my sewing projects and then running down the 80-foot hallway to get to the full length mirror in my room was getting really old.
This pretty lady is the most recent addition to my office, and she is the perfect completer piece. Can’t wait to get a ton of use out of her. But for now, she just wears my pretty red dress for me.
I bought this clothing rack per Whitney’s suggestion, and it’s now one of my favorite pieces in the room. It’s nothing fancy, but I love having a place to hang my sewing projects and my clothes that I’m working on styling.
Clearly I’m gravitating toward leather, oversized sweaters, and ankle boots…now if only we could get some Fall weather around here 🙂

Your desk area is so organized & pretty! I wish I had room in my office for a garment rack because I love the look of it 🙂

SO cute! Where did you get your ankle boots and the first and last sweater?…I am here in frigid Utah so our fall is turning into winter quick and my summer wardrobe is not cutting it…haha!
The ankle boots are from Forever 21, Jellypop, and Lulu*s (in that order), and the cream sweater is from SheInside and the black and white sweater is from Kiki La Rue!
Thank you so much! I am going to try to get me some of those adorable Jellypop and Lulu's boots for sure! Thank you for taking the time to answer my silly question. p.s. my office wants to be your office when it grows up (aka unpacks itself and organizes itself in the new house…haha).
Beautiful office! Love the lamps and the rug! Breeze off of the ocean… I am very jealous
Such perfection! I need a clothing rack, that is brilliant! It looks amazing!
I'm so envious of this space. My sewing room/office has now been turned into our nursery and I'm working from an Ikea kitchen cart on my dining room table when I sew now. Hopefully one day I will have a space like this! Love the clothing rack – fantastic idea.
I love this so much. This is exactly what I want when I have an office of my own!

Love the feel of your office! It is calming and I can see your fun style coming through in the decor! I also love the "Do More Of What Makes You Happy" quote on the wall. A good reminder!
I love it. It is so bright and cheerful, I would work all day in there:) We just moved into a new place and I finally have an office space that I have been struggling to organize..Thanx for sharing..
I love your office space, it's so clean and pretty!!

I love it!
What a cute office!! My crafting room is in such poor shape comparatively, I need to work on that!
This looks fantastic – it makes such a difference to have a nice place to work, doesn't it?
what a simple, bright, clean, and peaceful looking office! I love how organized it is
Great laptop case!
We're fabric stash twinners! I had to buy a whole new tower and table top to fit all the fabric I bought at fabric weekend. Is that crazy? Yes. Completely.
I wish I had a clothing rack just because! Plus I need a full mirror in my room, my old one got broken and I'm getting sick of standing on my bed and looking in the bathroom mirror. You maybe just gave me the kick in the pants I needed!
looks really cute 😉
I love your description, makes me dream I had such a room, isolated on a third floor with ocean breeze ! 🙂 This serger is on my Amazon's wish list, what's your opinion on it ? I know it is a gift, but would you recommend it to someone else ? Thanks !
congrats Merrick!! it looks TOTALLY ADORABLE!! ♥ the dark brown hard-wood floors with super white walls and everything white and all organized and pretty. I study medicine and it has nothing to do with clothing or sewing but I'd LOVE to do that as a hobby someday. Even for my study room I think I could have some ideas to copy from your office, thank you so much for sharing it. That L shaped table seems really comfortable.
I adore your blog, (creepy comment) I even have it on favourite on my phone to check it out whenever I want. I honestly think your style is so pretty and doable, you dont have to go over the top to create a unique style. I'm personally starting to mix prints, because you inspired me to 🙂
My sewing room is a disaster. Your room has inspired me to be neat. Where did you find the desk?
I love how its so nice and streamlined. Love!!
Love love love love love this. I always love to see photos of artist's work spaces 🙂 Keep up the great work!!!!
What brand of dress form did you purchase?
is that red dress going to be featured again? it's gorgeous. where did you get it?
Very clean and organized, love it! And that clothing rack is perfect! I need one.

Thank you for sharing. I have zero sewing friends and completely lack the ability to grasp home design concepts. I always wonder what conditions my peers are working under. Cute!
Loving this look,Absolutely gorgeous you are!!!here is my loved blog,i think
maybe you are love too:
Backless Midi Bandage Dress
Keep in touch, best wish for you.
I'm typing this comment on THE SAME Ikea desk and wire drawers. WHAT THE! We pretty much were destined to be friends. So I love how clean your space is. It's so fresh and useable. Basically I need you to come decorate my house when I get one mmk? I need your space. Like yesterday. Love you to pieces!
I love all the white! I definitely want to know where the clothing rack is from (because it's white…lol…)
And i'm still really looking forward to your pant tutorial *wink* … I know you're busy!! But I am SO short and none of the one's I find at the stores fit me right. I found a really cute pair at target, on clearance for $6 but didn't think I had it in me to even alter them properly 🙁
Funny – I have the same Ikea chair and Ikea tables in the "L" shape! I use them in my studio as my sewing table & craft table/office space! Great minds think alike. 😉
Hi Merrick! I am a beginner sewer looking to buy my first machine. Do you have any recommendations?
