If you want your outfit to feel finished, but an extra layer is too warm? Here are four easy pieces to finish an outfit without adding a layer. These are perfect for summer!
As we head into warmer weather, it’s easy for outfits to feel boring since it’s too hot to wear layers. So today I’m going to show you four outfits, and how I make them better with the “third piece.”
The third piece is typically a layer, and it’s an outfit strategy to add interest to your outfit. But in this case, the third piece is going to be layer-free!
How to Finish An Outfit without Adding a Layer
1. Add a head accessory!
Hats and headbands are both great options, and there are millions of varieties of each. You could do a baseball hat with a more casual outfit, a fedora during the summer, a straw or bucket hat in the summer, or a fun embellished headband anytime of the year.
If you start with a basic shorts and tee, or skirt and blouse outfit during the summer, the addition of a head accessory a perfect non-layer “third piece.”
2. Try a belt.
I never wear belts to keep my pants up (I just buy pants that fit my waist, or alter them to fit my waist) but I do wear belts sometimes as an accessory! If your shorts and top, or skirt and top, or dress, or pants and tee feel too simple, a belt can spice up your outfit and give the illusion of a layer without any extra heat or layer.
3. Statement shoes
Statement shoes are a perfect “third piece” that can make your outfit feel fun and anything but simple. If you’ve got a super basic outfit, a pair of statement sneakers, wedges, or embellished sandals would add a pop.
4. Add Statement jewelry
I love adding statement jewelry to my basic outfits. Depending on what I’m wearing, I’ll add a stack of bracelets, a big statement earring, or occasionally a statement necklace.
I hope this is helpful as you put together outfits in the warmer weather!
