It’s Holiday Style Week! I’ll be sharing great holiday outfits for every occasion. Today, we’re talking about dressy festive outfits.
The holidays have a ton of reasons to dress up! This week for Holiday Style Week I’m sharing outfits for all occasions (yesterday was all about FORMAL HOLIDAY OUTFITS if you missed it) and today is all about DRESSY FESTIVE OUTFITS. You know, those outfits for holiday family pictures, or church on Christmas Sunday, or going to the Nutcracker ballet, or any other Christmas event where you need to be dressed up.
In addition to these four outfits, I also rounded up some dressy festive shopping options HERE if you need some shopping help!
Where to Wear Dressy Festive Outfits
Here are some great places to wear these kinds of holiday outfits:
- Church
- Work Party
- Ballet or Play
- Holiday Photos
Christmas Red
Don’t be afraid to go bold red for the holidays! I love wearing a bright Christmas red dress or top during the season, and this red top is perfection. The ruffles, the neckline, the sleeves, the fabric, the color…everything is perfect for a night at the ballet or a festive holiday party or dressy get together. If you need more red sweater ideas, I have more in my HOLIDAY STYLE CATALOG HERE.
If you wanted to dress it up a little bit more, wear it with a sleek pencil skirt (I wouldn’t do a flared skirt with the peplum style) but I think the coated jeans make it feel dressy without being formal.
Which accessories to choose:
- Since the top is so bold, keep your accessories simple and classic. I went for an oversized gold hoop (a statement, but still classic), bold bangles, and black block heel pumps. The heels dress up the outfit, as do the chic gold accessories. And then, I couldn’t resist adding a bold red lip to dress it up even more. If you do a red lip, choose a color that is very close to the red color of your top.

Try bold pants
Ok, I’m obsessed with these velvet pants. Velvet leggings are kind of a thing right now, which I’m honestly not a fan of, but as soon as I saw these velvet pants, I was in love. They are a bold, fun choice that’s unexpected and super festive. You could definitely dress them down, but with fancy shoes and a bold dressy top, they’re just so perfect for the holidays!
Which accessories to choose:
- These oversized gold hoop earrings are my go-to for classic but statement earrings. The gold color keeps them neutral and classy, and the size makes them just a little fun and unexpected. But they’re not so in your face that they compete with the bold pants or sleeves of the top. Since the top and pants are both so bold, I kept the shoes super simple and classic – it doesn’t get more classic than black patent leather pumps!

Bold jumpsuit
I shared a few jumpsuits in yesterday’s formal shopping post, but those were black jumpsuits, which can feel a lot more dressy and formal. A colorful jumpsuit doesn’t feel quite so formal, but still feels dressy and super festive. This dark teal beauty is gorgeous and comfortable, and just the right amount of glitz to make you feel festive without being too over the top.
Which accessories to choose:
- Since the dress is so bold, keep your accessories and your hair and makeup super simple. I chose classic black heels and some pretty and festive gold bow earrings that are a statement but not over the top. I went with a neutral lip and a shimmery eye, and it compliments the jumpsuit nicely without competing.

Plaid dress
It doesn’t get more festive than holiday plaid! This dress is comfortable, cute, and flattering with the waist tie, and although you could definitely dress it down with sneakers or flats, it looks so chic with over the knee boots.
Which accessories to choose:
- Don’t wear anything that will compete with the plaid, since that’s the star of the show, but you want something to add a little sparkle! I chose a pair of drop bow earrings that are fun and festive, but don’t steal attention away from the gorgeous plaid.
