As you may have noticed, posting was obsolete last week as we gallivanted across Texas to visit Janssen and Bart, and spend a few days in San Antonio. Peanut was an angel considering how much we dragged him around each day, and he thoroughly enjoyed all of Janssen’s baby girl, Ella’s, toys. There was also much milk stealing. And baby hair pulling. But we’ll try to forget those times and just focus on the few times when they actually noticed that there was another baby around and then sat together and played. And how it made Janssen and my hearts melt to little puddles of love and happiness.
The week before we left on vacation was a whirlwind of sewing and packing. One of the week’s sewing projects was my one and only maxi dress. Don’t hate me, but I kind of hate maxi dresses. Or maybe I just hate this particular maxi dress. The fabric is cute, but that’s about all the dress has going for it. Wrong length, weird material, stupid ruffle at the bottom, billowy around the empire waist that makes me look pregnant…I could go on.
So, a little chop, a few inches taken in on the sides, and now this dress could be in the running for my favorite summer dress.
cute dress! I've doubled my summer dress collection with long dresses found at D.I. that I've chopped the length off and tweaked here and there, all for pennies on the dollar. Gotta love it! And the little cousins, so cute 🙂
i actually love maxi dresses except when they have a ruffle on the bottom, so i think what you did to the dress looks perfecto! very cute! 🙂
I think I look like I'm a little kid dressing up in my mom's clothes when I wear a maxi dress. I much prefer what you did with yours.
I LOVE the revamp of the dress. It looks fit for summer and so light breezy now!!
The babies are darling playing together. I love that they have each other!!! Looks like SUCH a fun trip! So happy to have you back!!
This is such a good idea. I can only wear a maxi dress if i am pregnant or want to look pregnant. You are such an amazing sewer!
I would LOVE to change a maxi dress I have (received as a gift!) and do that to it!!!) to you tube for a tutorial= I'm not the strongest seamstress…
The short dress is so much cuter! So nice that you went to see Janssen and family.
yep. like the after much better.
You have the cutest clothes… feeling jealousy coming! Must resist!
I hate maxi dresses too! But I love what you did with yours! All of your crafty cuteness is inspiring.
Hi Merrick!
I love your blog! I never even thought about restyling my old, ugly clothes. Your blog has been such an inspiration. I have already redone a shirt and am going to shorten a maxi dress with a weird ruffle and awkward length. Keep it up! Love your tips and helps.
