I get excited really easily. My sister wrote a post about it once and she’s the same way. So is my little sister. So is my mom. We’re just a bunch of easily excited people.

But apparently I’m not excited enough to notice that I recently posted my 100th post…missed that….and that I passed my blogs first birthday. How lame.

However, today I am excited about something. And that something is a fireplace. Our current house doesn’t have a fireplace, and although our house is currently for sale, we have not found a new home and so I have no idea if it will or will not have a fireplace. But I REALLY want a fireplace.

I saw this image on Orange Beautiful today:

And I thought, even if I don’t have a fireplace in my next house, maybe I could build an awesome mantle like in that picture. Maybe not white, and maybe not in wood, and maybe nothing like this particular mantle, but this got me excited and really inspired me! Who needs a fireplace to have a mantle? Or maybe I’m totally off my rocker on this…do you need a fireplace to have a mantle?

Either way, I think that a mantle like the one in the picture would look beautiful even without an actual fireplace. And I think it would be fairly easy to build.

So today, I’m SO excited about fireplaces. Mostly because I’d finally have a place to hang my Christmas stockings!

I’m off to find more pictures…

Aren’t you SO excited???

We have two fireplaces . . . no mantles. That’s what we get for buying an old house! Some day . . .
From your comment on my post, I would love to hear about the online surveys. My email address is mary{dot}liddle{at}gmail{dot}com

As far as etsy goes, that is a great suggestion. . . if I happened to have a creative or crafty bone in my body, which I don’t. I can barely sew on a button! But I wish I did so I could go make some money there.

That is really awesome! No you don’t need a fireplace to have a mantle- Ryan is building me one and were putting a beautiful wrot iron candlestick holder with dozens of candles in various sizes in front of it- it’s going to be amazing- good luck house hunting and happy blog birthday and 100 post!

No, you don’t need a fireplace to have a mantle, but a fireplace would be really nice just in case the power goes out not to mention the ambiance of a real fire. (I can’t believe I just used the word “ambiance”. For some reason, I dislike that word.) And, no heat feels quite as good as wood heat. 😉 (We made the mistake of exchanging a wood burning insert to a propane insert. We don’t like it because we now don’t have that constant heat.)

The original mantle on our fireplace is a narrow brick shelf, but somewhere along the line, someone built a really nice wooden one that sits over the brick one. Sounds weird, but it “works”.

You know – I was watching HGTV the other day and they redid a room with no fireplace, but with a huge , beautifully carved mantle. It looked great!
