After nearly four weeks of writing for Babble, I’m starting to get my life back on a schedule. I was feeling like a total zombie, stress-case all the time, and felt like every spare moment was spent either thinking about, or writing a post for Babble. Dinner was being thrown together at the last moment every night, my kids were grouchy because I was constantly distracted, and all I wanted to do was lock myself in my office and sew (I have so many unfinished projects that are constantly calling my name!). In the last two years or so since I’ve started posting regularly on this blog, I’ve always said that if it started becoming a chore, or becoming too stressful and no longer fun, I would slow down, or even quit. So in an effort to avoid getting to that point (because I love blogging! I will never quit!), I’ve really started trying to manage my time a little bit better. I’m not quite there, but I’m feeling so much less frazzled, and even just typing this out feels therapeutic. I’ve always thrived on being busy — it makes me feel fulfilled and happy. But mismanagement of a busy and demanding schedule becomes chaos, and I don’t do so well with chaos. I live for schedules.

So this weekend I worked hard, played hard, and relaxed hard. I even went to bed early one night (a miracle!). Thank heaven for forgiving children and a very patient husband. Suddenly all is right in the world again.

I completely feel your pain – it's so hard to get work done & balance being a wife and mom too! Love this outfit – the navy & yellow pair so well together and I love your turban…too cute!! 🙂

  3. Cute Headband! I give you credit for being so consistent with your blog Merrick! I love reading it everyday you post. I also love steeling some fashion ideas from you. So thanks for not quitting on us.

  4. Good for you! I am glad that you are going to find the best balance for you and your family. It is so important. I commend you for being so dedicated to your blog. I feel the same way about mine. I have three kids too and with my schedule with work and their schedules and all of that–it can be a bit overwhelming.

  5. Oh boy, I know exactly what you mean. Working full time and running my own business on the side, while trying to get some free time with my little girl and my hubby… and getting to do all my house chores and finish the thousands of projects that I start… NOT AN EASY TASK!! There are weeks when I feel so tired and stressed out I just want to quit everything and move to a deserted island! 😛
I'm learning (little by little) to manage my time… and to not put SO much on my plate. 🙂

  6. Now that I'm pregnant I wonder how I will handle blogging with a little one. You are one of my inspirations and one of the first blogs I started reading. In fact, I read your blog way before I decided to start my own. I'm so glad you won't quit and that you are finding your family's balance.

Once you start monetizing your blog/writing for money, you definitely have to make sure you still have a work/life balance! It's tough to work from home, too, because there are just too many distractions that mean no one thing ever gets all the way done!

Just remember that if you take a moment to breathe, to just close your eyes and focus on the oxygen going in and the carbon dioxide going out… nobody dies. That's my mantra to myself if I start to stress too heavily. "It's okay, katie. If I don't get this done in five minutes, nobody dies."

  8. I love those shoes!

  12. Ohmigosh, I've been wondering how the heck you were managing to post regularly on here AND write such amazing posts on Babble…plus take care of kids, be present to your husband, look beautiful doing it all, and be sane. I'm really, really glad you're feeling less frazzled!

It's funny how we glorify the feeling of being busy, isn't it? I always feel most satisfied when I have a million things going on but I have to reel it in and remind myself that it's okay to take a break every once in a while. I'm glad you're getting in a little downtime. You deserve it girl!

I think you're superwoman for keeping ONE set of posts afloat, let alone two! (And they're both fantastic!) Glad to hear you're balancing out now. 🙂

Merrick, you are so talented at what you do and so inspiring. I hope you will continue but yes, please don't overwhelm yourself! Get some R & R and we readers will be ready for your next post. As a young mom of little ones I love what you've beenwriting for Babble.

I'm so glad you have been able to take the time you need to feel better and more relaxed. Blogging is lots of fun, but sometimes I need to remind myself that life is to be lived and not just blogged about, and it's okay to take a little break once in a while. Thanks for being honest and real with us XOXO
